Keifer's Restaurant

Description

The cuisine here is Greek-American with a Southern bent. What does that mean exactly? For starters, it means mouth-watering lamb gyros and pita mozzarella, delicious hummus and salads, and greasy potato skins that are clearly addictive. You can wash down your meal with an ice cold pitcher of beer served with chilled mugs. (You may bring your own wine, but not liquor.) Keifer's great, low-priced food is matched with a hip, casual atmosphere. Open and covered decks flank the rambling dining rooms with a bustling kitchen in the center of the chaos.

The food is great! Always a favorite when returning to Jackson. The restaurant is not very clean, but you seem to forget about it if you sit on the deck. Great place to hang out with friends and go when you're not in a hurry. The staff has never been friendly and the service isn't great, but the pita mozz. and gyros are worth it!

Great food, great prices, great service, great atmosphere. What more could you ask for? I had the tuna melt and cottage fries (dipped in feta dressing, of course)and have been longing for more ever since...

The food is always great. I keep coming back because of the food and cold drink, but the service is always horrible. I've eaten there at least fifty times and I can count the times I've had good service on one hand (or one finger). The restuarant is large, but the manager must be scared to hire servers. Each server usually covers about 15-20 tables, so don't expect quick service or drink refills. If you like good food check it out. If good service is more important you might want to try somewhere else. 5 star food, 1 star service.

Yummy to my tummy!

They have fantastic food! the outdoor eating area is wonderful! Parking can be tricky when they are really busy. Go in the door in the back of the building, not the front facing State Street. You'll love it!

Awesome gyros and hummus. You won't find better! The service is good and the atmosphere is fun. The prices are good for the amount of food. My sons fraternity eats here on a regular basis. They love it!

I love to eat at Keifers Restaurant. They have the most wonderful Gyro and Hummus. You receive a lot of food for the price. The atmosphere is unique. I would high recommend trying the place. YUM YUM.

Terrible service. Will NEVER go back.
By Allen, 3/19/07
We did not have to wait for a seat, there were plenty of tables available, which is the only positive experience we had here. Over 45 minutes after we gave our lunch order (two gyros and two cottage fries, not a tough order), and an HOUR after we entered, still no food. We finally had to leave without eating. When we gave up and made the decision to leave and go somewhere else, the waiter wasn't very cooperative, and he certainly displayed no concern that customers were leaving for lack of service. We paid for our soft drinks at the counter as we left, and the girl at the register asked how everything was. We told her "terrible". She grabbed our money, made change, offered no apologies, just sort of stuck her nose in the air and said "Well, we're really busy, and only have four waiters." We could see the kitchen and its staff from where we were sitting (about 40' away), and the kitchen staff was having a great time, yukking it up, dancing, and hooting the whole while. At least two tables who were seated after us were served and we still had no food. We asked two different waiters about our food, and were given the same answer each time: "We're really busy, have it out in just a minute." For future reference, "just a minute" in Keifer-speak means either 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or (if you get disgusted and leave, unserved, as we did), never. We did go to a place further down the road called Que Sera's, and were seated, ordered, served, and able to leave in only 45 minutes. At age 50, I've been in my share of great, good, fair, and poor restaurants. I would rate this as the worst experience, service-wise, that I've ever had in that half-century. I found the apparent total lack of concern for their customer service appalling.
