A cozy, much-loved landmark across from the McCoy Federal Building, this warm restaurant is famous for its homemade rolls, home-style cooking and friendly service. The Elite opens early weekdays for the downtown breakfast crowd and stays open all the way to dinner. Standard dinner fare includes fresh fish, Greek favorites and Mexican dishes. The breaded veal cutlets are a favorite choice among the locals. Beer is served, and you can bring in other alcoholic beverages. Credit cards are not accepted.
My fish was way, overpriced ($23) and average in taste, small in size.
My husband's breaded veal with cream sauce was excellent although the sauce was a little on the heavy side.
The scones were the nicest we've both ever had although, we'd have prefered them to arrive before the food.
The salad had lettuce just starting to go brown yet our french fries could have been more 'brown.'
Overall, varied quality with some really good items.
When you enter the premises there's a mouldy smell. It's a dingy venue but the place could have potential. It's crying out for a makeover.

I've loved the Elite since I was a little girl. I dined there while I was working in Jackson with friends and the wait for the popular tables was always worth it. The rolls are wonderful as is the bread pudding! The dressings are 'Greekly' wonderful! Now that I'm in Kentucky, my husband and I still like to drop in when we are in town and take our two children so that they can experience one of our favorite memories of Jackson. The brick walls and ferns add a cozy atmosphere and the smile behind the counter that asks you, 'How was your dinner?' is always pleasant. I recommend the Elite for anyone wanting something hardy and homey. This small town cozy restuarant in a big busy city is a great way to break up your day your friends and family!
