moved to Denver recently... have been looking for a good or even close to good mexican food restaurant. All I can say is El Tap has set the bar high! It has our love & vote for our favorite mexican food.
Can you start one in Denver? please....
Having just moved here from So. California we were desperately looking for a mexican restaurant that would satisfy our So. Calif. Mexican Restaurant craving. We kept hearing about El Tapatio on the radio since arriving here so thought we would try it. My wife & I went there on Dec. 17, 2009. The greeting was quick and friendly and the floor staff was great as well. The food, however, was a big disappointment! My wife ordered the 3 taco combo plate and I ordered the 2 enchiladas/1 taco combo plate. I asked for mine to be shredded beef and my wife asked for pork carnitas. The plates looked good but we were disappointed that beans did not come on the plate with the rice. The meat was way too salty on both dishes to the point that we were craving water all afternoon after leaving the restaurant. The chips/salsa served before the meal left a bit to be desired as well. The chips were warm but the salsa was not what we were used to in a good mexican restaurant. Instead of being the consistency of pico de gallo the salsa was a runny thin sauce with no hint that there was anything in it except tomato sauce and small amount of pepper sauce. All in all we were extremely disappointed. The waiter, however, did advise us of several other mexican restaurants in Cookeville that we will try next time but unfortunately it appears that good authentic mexican food can only be had west of the Mississippi River (sigh)!
I'd rather have El Tap than McDonalds - for the same prices (roughly) I can have a sit down meal, and GREAT queso. I've had many, many mexican meals, and I'd rather drive from Nashville to Cookeville just for El Tap!
Oh, and someone, please tell Alfredo he's the lil school girl :)
The worst mexican in town. The salsa is so bland. No flavor at all. Most dishes the portion size is so small it isn't enough for a child. Yes its cheap but i rather pay more for bigger portions and better tasting food. Avoid at all cost unless your cheap. I just don't understand why this place is always full. People are throwing their money away.
