This always-popular restaurant has a lot to offerpleasant atmosphere, good service and plenty of old favorites on the menu. Popular items include the hot artichoke dip and the baby back ribs. The grilled fish with rice or baked potato and salad is a well-executed standard. The hamburgers are large and luscious, and the homemade soups and salads make great lunches or starters. Houston's demonstrates what fern bar decor should becomfortable, attractive tables and banquets, good lighting, and enough plants to add life and soften the edges. The atmosphere and the fast, pleasant service are just right for office workers out for lunch and friends meeting for dinner before the movie.
Houstons is a great restaurant in east Memphis. It is always extremely busy. They are now taking call aheads for 2 or less. The food is really good. We always get the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer. I then get the Hickory burger which is delicous. They also have really good fries. On the downside, they never seem to have the chili that I always want and sometimes smoke from the bar seeps in. Many people do go to the bar to drink as well.
The service is excellent. The waiters and waitresses are trained and do a good job.
Overall, the place is great!
Upscale and classy, this is a definite stop while visiting Memphis. Houstons is off of Poplar near the Oak Court Mall. Very nice - I would highly recommend to any wanting a great place to wine and dine!
Houston's is a favorite restaurant for my family! We enjoy their varied menu from the delicious burgers all the way up to the ribs! The red cabbage is surprisingly tasty and the roasted veggies are beyond compare, both of which are vegetables of the day. The service is perfect. During dinner service, patrons are allowed to use the ample sized bar tables (5 booths actually) on a first come first serve basis. But if you choose to go on the list to sit in the diningroom around 7-9pm, it will be well worth the wait! Don;'t miss this East Memphis Jewel!
There aren't many places to dine in Memphis where you can expect this level of quality consistantly. I eat there often and am making it my choice tonight for my birthday dinner. As you might expect at most nice restaurants there is a dress code, so leave you baseball caps at home.
Its consistantly GREAT! Never a disappointment. Yea they ask men to take their hats off...istn't that manners when you eat. I thought it was wonderful that the have the southern manners you dont see very often
We left without eating. After waiting in the front for about 20 minutes I felt someone should have told my dad and husband that they needed to take ball hats off. They waited until we were seated. I felt this was ignorant and pretentious. We were paying the same for food as if we had an Armani suit on. If you didn't want us in there they should have just said they didn't want to serve us. WE HAVE MONEY JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE IN BLUE JEANS AND BALL HATS DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE ROAD SCUM. WE STILL WOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED $10 FOR A BURGER IF WE HAD STAYED. THIS IS LUNCH PEOPLE NOT DINNER OR NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY.
