Corky s BBQ specializes in slow-cooked, Memphis-style barbecued meat and ribs. The restaurant uses both open and closed barbecue pits with hickory chips and charcoal to cook meats at low temperatures. Its menu features pork shoulder, chicken, sausage, beef brisket, tamales and spaghetti. Corky s BBQ serves fries, cole slaw, baked beans and potato salad as side items. The restaurant s desserts include fudge pie and peach cobbler. It sells party packs and bulk items, as well as caters special events for businesses, churches, schools and civic organizations. The interior of Corky s establishments showcase barn wood walls, neon signs, polished brass and aged brick. The restaurant was established in 1984 and has two locations in Memphis.
The desserts here far surpass their BBQ! It is a well talked about restaurant and has great service with a staff that is loyal to Corky's! Small and quaint inside, you might be better off just buying a bottle of their BBQ sauce to take home. If you are going to try Memphis style BBQ there might be better restaurants for you to try!
My sister and I were stopping overnight in Memphis on our way from NC to Texas, so we knew we had to try Memphis BBQ. I think we made the WRONG choice in going to Corky's. The ribs were dry and overcooked, and the tamales were TERRIBLE! The best parts were the sweet tea, coleslaw, bread and wetnaps. It wasn't the worst meal we've ever had, but I'd never pay for that again!
I've lived in Memphis 2 years now, been to more BBQ places than I can remember, and Corky's is the best. I would go just for the BBQ anyway, but they also have great service and it's CHEAP! love it. If you have to pick one BBQ place in Memphis, this is it.
Born and raised in Memphis with an uncle in the barbeque business...you better believe I'm a REAL barbeque snob. Kansas City, Carolina and Texas (gag me!) don't know what barbeque even begins to mean. That said, CORKY'S has been the best hands down since it opened when I was in high school. I now live out of state and CORKY's is the first place I stop when I get home and the last place I stop before I leave...ribs are not my thing - ask for pulled pork not chopped! And the spaghetti is awesome...so are the tamales...and desserts. In my book, Corky's is the BEST anywhere...we always bring it home for family gatherings. It's THAT good. But don't take my word for it, go see for yourself! You will not be sorry!
