Blues City Cafe
The atmosphere at this diner-style cafe is so authentic that the place was used virtually unchanged in The Firm , the Tom Cruise movie about a Memphis law firm. Bill Clinton is also fond of the Blues City Cafe. The decor is intentionally weathered, with corrugated iron and glass blocks. Diner-style seating offers a great view of the crowds on Beale. The best bet on the menu is that Memphis staplebarbeque. You can watch big slabs of ribs being turned on the grill while you drink a cold beer. The prices are slightly elevated because of the restaurant's historic location, but you can still eat for a reasonable price.
If you like wet ribs and want to see a piece of downtown Blues City cafe is the place to go. A full slab or ribs with a side of Fries, coleslaw and beans is the normal order. They do have many other options.
Yahoo needs to add Barbque and Ribs to the vote.
Their peach cobbler is great on the hot skillet and if you like chocolate the huge brownie is the way to go.
Perfect place for before or after a basketball game, baseball game, or concert.
We went to 5 other places & Blues City Cafe Ribs were my favorite!
GREAT TASTE!!!! We also enjoyed BB Kings, Isaac Hays, the Rendezvous, and Corky's! BLUES CITY CAFE RIBS ARE THE BEST ON BEALE AND THE BEST IN MEMPHIS!
You haven't experienced Memphis until you have eaten at the Blues City Cafe'. The food is fantastic, and you can't beat their ribs. The staff and service is excellent even when the place is packed. It was the highlight of our trip.
I have eaten a lot of ribs in my day but I must say the ribs at Blues City Cafe are the best I've ever had. The place isn't fancy so if that's what you want keep walkin but if you're looking for some great ribs then you should definitely give this place a try. A few of the locals recommended this place and I sure and glad we listened to them.
When we stopped here, I expected overpriced, cookie-cutter, tourist fare. Man was I wrong! The bones on the ribs were merely for decoration as when you went to pull it off of the rack it come out in your hands clean. The staff was great, and on the hottest afternoon of the summer made sure we had water almost as soon as we were seated. I will be going back.
My wife and I have lived downtown for one year and tried as many BBQ joints as possible: Rendezvous, Corky's, Rum Boogie Cafe, Cozy Corner, Interstate, The Commissary, etc. Of all of them, (and my coworkers agree) Blues City Cafe has THE BEST RACK of RIBS.
