Alcenia's Desserts & Preserves Shop, Memphis

We came directly to Alcenia's when we got off the plane this morning. The Saturday brunch was a good deal. My wife had salmon croquettes, pancaked, grits, and fried green tomatoes. I had fried chicken, scrambled eggs, grits, and toast, Everything was delicious! To our surprise, the restaurant was not busy at all. Service was excellent. Total price for 2 for brunch at Alcenia's was under $25. We highly recommend Alcenia's.

Visited Alcenia's about 2 weeks ago. Without question, it was the best food I have EVER had in a restaurant. Alcenia is a delight as well. She came out and greeted each one of us with a hug and kiss. My only disappointed is I live too far away to visit her frequently. Must try the sweet potato cobbler, blackeyed peas, cooked cabbage, etc. Blackeyed peas were the best I have ever had and I grew up in the South eating soul food. If you are ever in Memphis and love good southern cooking, Alcenia's is a must.

Had lunch today, it was great as always. I love her meatless spagetti, it's my favorite! The baked Talapia was yummy. I always call ahead to place an order so I can make it back to work. You can check her menu out at www.alcenias.com before going. You won't be sorry.

that this is the best food I've had in a long, long time. It is so wonderful to be able to eat like this without even leaving the North End of Downtown. The friendliness of the owner and the server is welcome. The owner came out and hugged me when I came in for the first time yesterday. The nice thing is that there were people in business suits, jeans and shorts and a t-shirt (well, okay that was me-but I'm a regular now). The atmosphere is like being in someone's home. I had to run one errand between working out and getting my shower and stopped in looking like that to grab some food to go. It was my first time and once I went in I decided to eat there. I tried to sit outside so as to not offend anyone but it was 91 degrees and two gentlemen invited me to sit with them at their table. I made two new friends and found a new favorite place to eat a GREAT lunch! I went back today and took a plate lunch

Whether it's the service, food, or atmosphere that makes you love a eatery, you will love this one for all three reasons. Sure, it's the best home cooking in Memphis, but the owner is a soul to love and adore. You will be welcomed graciously and treated like royalty. Alcenia's is truly the BEST!!!

This place is small but warm and quaint. The food will make you smack your Mama! What's good, everything. The desserts and the catfish are scrumptious. It's sinful someone can cook like that. The ambience is down home/eclectic (if there's such a thing). The service is good, but I'd suggest they hire more servers so the owner can have more time to mingle with her guests. There's peach cobbler to die for, then she serves up egg pie, german chocolate cake and of all things you can get Kool-Aid. Overall, I give this place two thumbs up. Bon Appetit.

We first met BJ four years ago and have been back every year since then! She greets you with a hug and gets you settled in and takes care of your every need. The Staff is just as friendly. Did I mention the food? Mmmmmmm, mmmmmm good! Her catfish is moist and flavorful, her pork chops are awesome and her sweet tea is sweet and plentiful. Don't forget to call ahead for her Sweet Potato Cobbler!
