I have frequented the Butcher Shop on numerous occasions for the last 5 years. Last night, I took my brother-in-law to your restaurant on Front Street. He was looking forward to it as I have raved to him about your steaks. We sat at our table for 20 minutes and no one even came by to say hello. The waitresses were circling our table and not one stopped to ask if we had been helped. After I informed the host that no one had helped us, he promptly asked a waitress to help us. Even after this, no one came to our table for 10 minutes. When she finally showed up, we explained that the service was unacceptable and that we did not plan to stay for dinner and requested the manager. The manager showed up 10 minutes later and only stopped to talk to us because we asked him to. When we explained what happened he gave us an insincere apology and I told him that I would never be returning. He did not say anything to keep my business. The poor service is inexcusable and it is a very embarrassing reflection on your restaurant. There are too many good steak houses in Memphis to settle for one with terrible service.

So much for service, I had taken my wife to the downtown butcher shop for her birthday. The steaks were chard, tuff, and tasteless. The potato was old and over cooked to the point the inside was brown. Bringing this to our servers attention she returned with the manager. The manager promptly informed me in a very rude manner that I did not have to pay and was asked to leave the restaurant and walked away. As I tried to get her attention from across the room to pay for the bottle of wine. She returned again with a very large man and in no short words told us to leave or we would be escorted out. Thank you so much for a wonderful birthday dinner we wont be back.

I recently went to The Butcher Shop in Cordova. My friend and I were told there would be a wait time because there weren't any tables ready. Yet when looking around the restaurant, we saw several tables clean and available for use. When we brought this up to the hostess, she said there weren't any servers available for those tables. What?! You don't allow your servers to cover more than one table OR have a full shift for a Friday night? That didn't make sense at all. We waited 20 minutes to be seated yet the restaurant wasn't busy. Plus the IMMEDIATE SEATING sign on their building was lit-leading us to believe we would have immediate seating. We ended up leaving which is when we saw a whole gang of servers standing behind the restaurant chilling. I couldn't help but think this was discrimination. I'm not spending my money at a location that discriminates against some of its potential customers.

We went to the Butcher Shop July 8th,it was our first time and our last! There was 4 of us and all of our steaks were over cooked, our waiter came to our table and asked if everything was ok and I said everyones steak is over cooked,he said hmm and turned and walked away.I have never had anything like that happen to me before! He never said would you like another or would you like something else!!SAD!!We knew at that point we were stuck with it,so we tried to eat it,yuk.I ordered a fillet it was the worst cut of meat ever,it was dry and had no taste at all.My friend sent her top sirloin back because she couldn't cut it!To top it off after everyone complained about the food the manager never came to our table to apologize!!Some steakhouse!PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

Cordova location: Nice atmosphere, basic service. The steaks aren't that great. I've been a few times over the years. A couple of the steaks have been good, but the rest not so. Sometimes quite bad - where you can actually hear your knife griding on little gristles and stuff. Sometimes I have been forced to swallow chunks whole because I just couldn't break them down...and I only get filets or NY strips, med or med-rare - have had trouble with all. To top it off, once I was eating some spinach dip and found myself chewing on a little metal twisty thing - probably use to hold a bag closed, like a bread twist-tie. Told the waiter and they just said sorry - This sort of thing should be immediately reported to management who should then deal with it appropriately. The place can be fun if you drink and some guys want to just go out and have some beer and steak somewhere - so I'll probably be back sometime, but not if I'm picking the place and want to be guaranteed a good steak.

Best Steak Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/9/07
I went there with some friends. The atmosphere was quiet and lovely. I had a PorterHouse with sauteed muchrooms and the Twice Baked Potato and it was W:)nderful. The steak melted in my mouth. The mushrooms and Twice Baked Potato complimented each other. Then to top that off, I had a bottle of Duck Pond Wine. The whole experience was one I will never forget and I can't wait to go back.

On our honeymoon.
By BethT, 10/25/07
On our honeymoon we dicscovered this place while walking through the city. My husband really enjoyed cooking our steaks on enormous grill. It was a fun but quiet atmosphere, great food and with large portions. We still talk about how good it was six years later.
