Steps from the University of Memphis campus, this hangout draws undergraduates for the beer, graduate students for coffee, and faculty for a good sandwich and conversation. The food consists largely of nachos, various fried things in baskets, and big and juicy hamburgers. Other choices include the portobello mushroom sandwich and the turkey melt. The decor is made up of rough wood floors, tables with graffiti carved into them, a pool table, videogames and sports on the TV. Customers dressed in anything more formal than college student-grubby may feel out of place. The full bar specializes in shooters and imported beer.
While I have accompanied friends to the Tracks many times, I have NEVER had a good meal here. On several occasions I have actually been ill. If you want beer, head for the Flying Saucer, where beer is their business.
Growing up in Memphis and working around the corner from this memphis establishment, not once, but twice..It is a institution for my friends of the past. Whenever in this town, being from Memphis or from somewhere else, you will always find friends! The food is great and the beer is better! Don't miss the shooter special when the train goes by!
The food is really good, and there's a ton of excellent vegetarian choices. There's a pool table, which is always nice.
On the downside, there is no actual nonsmoking section - just a couple of tables about six feet from the smoky bar. It's almost insulting to nonsmokers. The place always seems to be hopping, though, so I guess they're not hurting for the business of the smoke-averse.
I went to RP Tracks twice during my short staying in Memphis...because the food is AMAZING. But I might not go back...because the service is TERRIBLE!
I m vegan, and while there are a lot of VEGETARIAN options at RP Tracks, it isn t very vegan-friendly. The first time I went, I have the Buffalo Tofu Fingers and the BBQ Tofu Nachos (without cheese or sour cream :/) The buffalo tofu fingers were really good, but I was informed later they are NOT VEGAN, they are made with butter in the sauce. I guess I am an idiot for not knowing that, but I ll say my server knew I was vegan and didn t say a thing. Okay, fine, whatever. The BBQ nachos were good, but without the chese they were not incredible. Also, the server was generally surly and rude.
The second time, ordered some generic veggie sandwich and made sure it was actually vegan. It was good, but obviously forgettable. We had another surly server that was slow with refills, acted perturbed when we asked questions, ignored us for the first 10 minutes we were sitting there, etc. Ugh. Also, we got seasoned waffle fries as an appetizer, and they were super good, but we got about 7 of them on a giant tray. Not impressed.
Bottom line: the food is really good, but the service and presentation leave a lot to be desired.
It is fabulosity at its best. The food, the service and atmosphere. It is all great.
It is a great place for business lunchs. You can work meet and accomplish business in a non work environment. The location is perfect you can get there from anywhere in town in about 5-10 minutes.
