I'm not much of a fried chicken eater, but I had to try this place when I visited Memphis for Labor Day weekend. This location is small so it seems to be constantly packed so instead of eating there we decided to place our order to go to avoid the cramped restaurant. Once we placed our order they said it would be ready in 20 minutes...The best part is that it was ready in exactly 20 minutes. All I have to say about the chicken is that it was the best fried chicken that I've ever had. Every place that serves fried chicken in San Antonio, TX is just fast food garbage. The chicken had the best flavor that I've ever tasted and didn't leave a greasy taste in my mouth. If you're ever in Memphis, visiting Gus's World Famous Chicken is a MUST!!!!!!!

Went to Gus's Fried Chicken to celebrate my birthday as I have doing for 10 years now.Food and 40oz beer fantastic, service was terrible. Usually I look forward to this meal, once a year, as Gus's has the best fried chicken you have ever tasted, but after waiting 40 mins for service I called for the manager, he came over all smiles but when the bill came what had he done? Absolutely nothing!! Maybe another venue next year. You are in a service industry and expanding to other venues. What is that manager thinking?

Worst service ever especially via pickup!! Called for pickup and busy signal for an hour. Finally someone answered and told me 20 min for pickup, got there 2o min later and had to wait 35 min. This has happened many times. My order was just sitting there the whole time. Waitresses and waiters are ok, but most of the cashiers were very rude and should not be working around any humans!! Other than the service, chicken is great !!

This was a destination rather than an afterthought. My soul purpose for coming to Memphis was to eat this chicken and find good bbq. I was not disappointed. When I got there, people were sitting outside so I was worried there would be a long wait. I knew I was ordering take out because I had read reviews ahead of time and knew to get a seat was near impossible. I order the 2 piece meal (1 breast, 1 wing, baked beans, cole slaw) The bf got the 3 piece (2 breasts, 1 wing etc.). It took about 20 minutes to get our food and then we decided to go eat on the Riverside one street over. Amazing is not the right word to describe this chicken. It had a very tasty crust followed by an explosion of juiciness. OMG. I inhaled my two pieces and wondered why I hadn't gotten the three piece. It was soooo delicious.

It doesn't get much better than this! Up there with Price's in Charlotte NC and Willie Mae's Scotch House in New Orleans. My wife and I enjoyed every bite of the crunchy, juicy, spicy fried chicken. The beans and slaw were forgetable but the chicken will remain in our memories for a long time to come. They cook it to order so check your impatience at the door, order some fried green tomatoes to hold you over, it's worth the wait. We've since been back a second time and it was definately not a fluke. This is great fried chicken. I have a serious craving for it now on a regular basis. Anyone who has watched the new TV series Memphis Beat might have noticed that they were eating it in their car the other night.

Gus's Chicken was #1 on our list of places to eat when we went to Memphis the last wkend in February 2010. We had seen it on Food Network and really wanted to try it.The place was EXTREMELY crowded but it didnt take them long to get us a table. The service was great. The fried pickles were nothing to brag about, Dixie Cafe's are much better. But we went for the chicken, not the pickles. We both got a 3 piece dark meat plate with potato salad and french fries. The sides were terrible but the chicken was great. Although everything I ordered wasnt the best, the chicken made up for it. I would definitely go to Gus's again. If you like chicken, you would love it.

Gus's is the best chicken I've ever had in my life! I grew up in Mississippi, now live in Virginia and am married to a world class serious foodie. We have done ALL the fried chicken meccas and I would rate the top three as: #1 Gus's -- it is a league of its own. Light years ahead of the rest #2 Price's Chicken Coop in Charlotte, NC #3 Willie Mae's in New Orleans, LA
