I fell for the hype, stopped in to get some bbq to take home. Ordered rack of ribs, whole chicken and 1# of sliced beef. Drove 3hrs home, opened the packages and ended up with 6 ribs, beans and a chicken leg and thigh. This cost $49.10, hardly a deal! However, they did me a favor because the food was very dissapointing, I would have thrown most of it away anyway. After calling them just to tell them what happened, they said to come by and eat free. Can you imagine in one or two months trying to convince someone their that you had a free meal coming! Not really an option and wouldn' eat there again if it was down the street, free or not. How about crediting my account the difference or overnighting the remaining order, didn't offer either one of these options.
The food was really good they could put more bbq sause on there dinner platers . the sevice needs to improve a whole lot. Three servers came by and said they would back that was the only time we saw those girls.20 minutes went by before we got drinks. They never came back to ask if we wanted a refill, there is no excuse for that type of service when they had 8 or 9 servers. We drove out of our way on vacation just to try Memphis BBQ and it turned out to be a big disapointment .
I went for the King but fell in love with the beef brisket sandwich and interstate bbq just outside of south haven. I ate at pigs on beale and the food was great but when I had that first bite of that beef brisket sandwich I was in food bliss. the service wasn't great but hey they work for minimum wage but the food wow get the brisket sandwich and you wont regret it at all. I want to go back to south haven for this place. if I was rich I would pull a Elvis and get all my friends on a plane and go have lunch there right now hahaha I LOVE YOU INTERSTATE BBQ
If you don't want to be disappointed read this through. Just like suddensam said below, the bbq is horrible. My mother, aunt and I are from down home Alabama where meat is marinated and thrown on the grill raw not po-boiled and thrown in the oven. There was no smoked taste and the bbq sauce is not good. We had pork ribs and beef ribs. My mom said they were horse ribs. She said they tasted musty and tough. I could not try them b/c I was ready to vomit by the time I had to just get up to pay the check and leave with no dessert. Sorry Rachael if you want some real bbq come to Fairhope, Alabama and ask for the Young family.
We don't have a restaurant but we have some slap yo mamma bbq.
Worst ribs I have ever eaten. ribs cold and old. Better bar-b-que at topps.Have been regular customer for 15 years, but no more.Interstate has gone the same route as Rondevous downtown, all hype and sorry food.Tourists be ware.
Interstate BBq is my first stop in memphis after the hotel. I go there everyday that i stay in memphis. Get the BBQ spaghetti sounds gross but is excellent!! I love the rib tips also. Moisten them myself with the spicy sauce and love love love the slaw. If your not from the south it might be intimidating area, but lots of people go there, famous people!! Dont forget the Tea either. Nothing like southern tea...
First stop in Memphis was Interstate BBQ. No BBQ smell in the air should have been my 1st clue....we found out (after asking) that you seat yourself....I ordered combo plate ribs & tips w/beans & slaw....meat was barely warm with no noticeably seasoninf taste (tasted steamed or pre-boiled) with a waterly sauce, half the tips was were unchewable, beans cold and dried out; loved the slaw. I had the sweet potato pie for dessert...they gave me a little round pie...I'm like.....I'm in the south I want a peice of southern sweet potato pie! I will not even go into my wife's reviews. We wanted and wanted for the check...I finally went up front an into the adjacent room and was told I shloud pay there...Oh! okay.
I would say pretty soon they are going to run out of visiters and they will have to close.
My wife and I were on a vacation through memphis, so we decided to stop in and try the bbq, that we had heard so much about on the television. We walked in and were handed menus and then the waitress walked off. leaving us to assume that we were to seat ourselves. After seating down we did not get any service for 15 minutes and then we asked a busboy who our server was and finally got a server to take our order. Then we ate our food . After we were done it took us getting up and going to the counter to finally get our check and pay, with no comment from the waitress, who was seating down eating. Just thought service would be better at a establishment that has had so much praise about.
