In one word: Glorious.
We have always entered to find a warm, Parisian atmosphere with dim lighting and comfortable tables. The wait-staff and bartender are superb.
As for food, the most important part, of course, the pad thai is spectacular. Tender chicken and fried egg, rice noodles lightly fried to perfection served in a tangy, sweet sauce with a wedge of fresh, juicy lime and crisp bean sprouts. I like to add a little chili paste they bring to the table to bring up the spice a bit.
The Pad-See-U is even better, if you can imagine. Thicker noodles in a slightly sweeter sauce, accompanied by your choice of meat. We chose tofu that was firm and highly marinated (tasted like chicken- and I didn't like tofu before we had this) and lightly fried in a wok. Crisp carrots joined the medley to make this one of the best dishes we have ever had in Memphis.
This is a simply charming place that you can take friends, family, or a date. Dishes run $9-18 on average, and I usually get my entree, water, and tip for $13.00. We adore this cozy restaurant so very much. As long as they keep the quality high, I will return frequently.
PS- Try the Thai tea for a refreshing, cool, creamy drink. Very, very resonant tea flavors sweetened with sugar and mellowed by cream, served over ice. Very nice and unusual.
Overall, this is the best Thai experience in Memphis. I'm sure there is some dump in a strip mall somewhere that has something that tastes more authentic but for the sake of avoiding food poisoning not to mention a place you get actually take a date too, I suggest this fine little establishment. It has a very cozy house-like athmosphere with a beautiful patio and garden set upon a wooden deck. You can also dine inside if the weather is undesirable. I think the food measures up but it isn't the best Thai food I've ever had. However, the value is amazing. It has a very first class dining atmosphere yet the prices are very reasonable and much cheaper than Sawadii.
The lunch menu is excellent, served by an excellent staff.
I have taken many visiting business associates there, and I have been told many times that this was a real treat.
The raman shrimp and the siam beef on the lunch menu are wonderful lunches, at a very modest price.
The ambiance is very nice (cloth napkins and table cloth), the complimentary seving of the ssoup of the day adds a very nice touch.
How they can serve such a nice lunch for little more than the cost of a fast food lunch is a mystery to me, but I am taking advantage of it while I can
Very good thai in a comfortable setting. the person playing music on the patio the last 2 times I was there was a little loud though and distracting from conversation. Food is very fresh and authentic. Very nice setting. Good place for a date or with friends.
