I have been coming to this restaurant on my birthday for the last 4 years. Last night will be the last time. Our food was cold sent it back and still cold. The food has always been good til this year. I spent from 1 am til 5 throwing up and diarrhea must have been food poisoning. Will not go back there again.
The bad part was I paid close to $50 to get sick. Happy Birthday.
What have your people done to this great restaurant???!!!
The food was superb when Guenther was there. Yesterday we ate at the Linderhof for my birthday, as we have done many times over the years. We were told that Guenther retired, but the same food was being prepared by the new owners. Unfortunately they ruined Guenther s great recipes by making everything sweet. When my wife sent her dinner back because the Sauerbraten was tough and sweet and sour instead of sour, the chef came to the table and said that they had changed the recipes to adapt them to the East-Tennessee taste. Hello!!! If I go to eat at a German restaurant I want GERMAN food, not East-Tennessee. This goes for any other ethnic eatery as well. I used to tell my friends that the Linderhof served the best German food. Now I have to tell them that it is the worst I ever tasted. (I have eaten in German restaurants in Europe as well as in the US.). Also, we had asked another couple to join us. He was born in Germany and grew up with real German cuisine. My wife and I are now embarrassed to have exposed these people to this food. The staff was very accommodating in that they brought my wife another Sauerbraten (Which she also could not eat) and they did not charge for her main course and dessert. But, unless the owners come to their senses and start serving genuine German food, this place will not exist much longer.
Me and my husband love coming there to dinner. Yes, the food takes a long time to receive. Yes, its sometimes quite loud. Yes, the food is sort of expensive. That's why we come on special occassions. Its something that he enjoys, and I have come to like as well. The service has aways been great. We've had the cook come to our table, and speak to us nearly every time we've visited, and we've never ask for that. The woman that runs the place (I'm guessing the owner) is always nice. My only suggestion, if you come in with children, I could see an issue of waiting for food without them getting ansy.. which is another reason we leave it for special occassions- no kids with us! Its always great food, service, and ambience!
THE WORST. I could list many reasons why, VERY over priced, super slow, terrible music, did I mention overpriced, mediocore food at best. I could go on but they have wasted enough of my time and more than enough of my money. I recommend any where over this place.
I was a classic French chef for years, so I am very critical of how others prepare food. In my last 3 visits, the food and the service was excellent. The German food was really some of the best I have ever had. I get along great with the staff and owner.
The venison on goose pate was unbelievable. Tall beers were $5.00.
I saw some of the negative comments here and I don't know how others could have such a different experience than mine, but if I am ever unhappy with service or food I don't suffer in silence, I say something then.
However, I usually go there after 8:00pm when its slower. So, I never experience the busy times.
Food coment: I know enough from prior cooking experience what it takes to make good sauces. The chef makes his stocks and base sauces exceptionally well.
If I can offer any advice, most restaurants deserve a second chance to really know what they are about. Go back, tell them you were unhappy with something the last time, and would like to try something differnt, just to make sure you didn't just have a bad experience. Maybe they will try to be more accomadating and I will mention this to them.
My husband arrived thirty minutes early to get us a table and the bartender said she was too busy to get him a beer. When the rest of us arrived we were sat and we immediately ordered our beers. Thirty minutes later the beer finally arrived and at that point we went ahead and ordered our food. Two hours later our food had not arrived. We finally got up put money on the table for the beers and left. Then we were chased out in the parking lot by the waitress that wasn't even serving us. We ended up going back in to pay for the soup and the bill for just me and my husband was $50 dollars. This was for two beers a piece and soup. Very embarassed in front of our friends. Will never recommend again. WOW!!! Very bad experience. Best part the owner is the cook and had no concern about our bad experience.
Linderhof Restaurant is one of our favorite places to dine for special time with family and friends. The service is always top notch and the food is beyond fabulous. I would not recommend this restaurant for children as it is not your typical family dining experience. Menu items are prepared to order and well worth the wait. Little ones however would not understand and this could cause unhappiness for them, and for your fellow diners! If you crave something different, delicious, and delightful, visit Linderhof Restaurant, you won't be disappointed!
