My wife and I have been to the Melting Pot in Knoxville, TN many times. A few days before my birthday we booked a reservation for 5:30pm. We received a confirmation e-mail and number. We arrived at the restaurant a few minutes early (5:30pm) and were told we would be seated in a bit. Understandably since it is a upscale place. However, strange since we had reservations. While we were waiting several other people came in and were seated instantly. Finally the server came and took us to a table (not a private traditional booth but one which connected to another table where other people could also be seated) in the very back of the restaurant. There were many other private booths open so we asked to be seated next to one that was close by. The server rudely replied "I can't sit you there because we are very busy tonight and you came in an hour earlier than your reservation." I instructed her that we had a reservation for 5:30pm and attempted to show her the confirmation e-mail and number on my IPhone. She didn't want to listen to us, so I requested to speak to the manager. After waiting a bit, this guy comes to our table and says he is the manager. We explain the situation and show him the e-mail and number. He acts clueless and says he will speak to the server. He comes back and says "on our side we have you down as 6:30pm. I think there must be something wrong with the e-mail reservations and we are very busy." He also kept going on about how our first names are the same (not a good way to calm the situation). Nonetheless, he didn't care that what was suppose to be a calm and relaxing birthday dinner was now messed up due to there lack of sensitivity and for that matter intelligence. After the fiasco, the meal was ok, but subpar probably due to the service. Therefore, if you want to eat at the Melting Pot in Knoxville, TN don't expect too much and be willing to pay about 100 dollars for your meal and quality service (yeah right).

Romantic Atmosphere Melts with Delicious Food!
By Jewels, 11/23/06
This is the place for a romantic meal for two, or even a special evening with friends. Fun dipping and delicious, quality fondue. The s'mores dessert is fabulous! Great date spot!

Phenomenal
By MissT, 7/2/06
This place is absolutely phenomenal. Very pricey. But, if you're going for a special occasion it's so worth it. Dinner ranges from 75.00 to 150.00 but you are there for a minimum of 4 hours. The food is never ending.

Plan on being here awhile
By cryogenic, 5/16/06
Seriously, if you come here, plan on being here at least 2 hrs minimum. Now, that's no fault of the servers, it just really takes that long to get through a whole meal with as much food as they give you. Couple that with the fact that you have to cook your own food and you can obviously only cook one course at a time. Four of us went a few months ago and each of us got something different. We all sampled each other's food and I was pretty impressed that NOTHING tasted bad at all. The chicken my friend's girlfriend had was probably the most tender and juicy chicken I've ever encountered in my life. My filet mignon was so tender I could cut it with a butter knife. My girlfriend got some other cheaper cut of meat that I can't remember and even hers was really good. Overall, the quality of the food was amazing, but the price most certainly was not. Also note that the Coq Au Vin fondue is an extra $5 and though it is clearly stated on the menu, our server never mentioned it to us. Not only that, my friend only got the cheese dip and asked if he could get seconds. The server said "yeah, for $15 you get as much as you want". Turns out, it's $15 a pop and my friend was none too happy. Luckily they removed the extra charge without too much issue. Overall, the service was pretty good if a little slow and the food was fantastic. Would I go back? Probably not. The booths are not large person friendly, which doesn't bother me but most of my friends aren't so skinny. If you go on a weekend night, I'd recommend reservations as they do tend to get VERY busy. All in all, not worth the $60.

Good stuff!

If you don't have all evening to eat dinner(which it takes hours) AT LEAST DROP IN FOR CHEESE AND CHOCOLATE! The best fondue around!
