Chattanooga may be a long way from Greece, but the taste of Athens can be found at this family-style restaurant. Traditional Greek specialties along with the very best Italian and American cuisine comprise the extensive menu. Choose from char-grilled steak, fresh seafood, vegetarian entrees, gyros and more. Start with fried Calamari and end with Baklava or other Greek pastries. Low prices make this a great choice for families. Quick service and friendly staff make it a favorite choice for business lunches.
We walked in an a Friday evening with a full parking lot and were seated right away. The service was very good although our waitress was working in more than one section. The food was amazing. Save room for dessert if you can because it is worth it! My only complaint was that we felt underdressed. Jeans and a T-shirt felt a little too casual for this atmosphere. Will definately go back when we are in town.
On Mother's Day 2008, I met with my parents, grandparents and other relatives ( a party of 11 in total) at about 12:30. The place was packed, but my parents had arrived at 11:55 am to put our name down for a table at 1 pm. I had to work at 1:45, eating at 1 would have just given me enough time to eat and visit with my family, some of which came from out of town (which was why we could eat earlier). At a few minutes after 1, we still had not been seated so I asked the hostess and was told it would only be a few minutes. Finally, at 1:15, my mother and I both went to ask. At that time we were told that because we did not notify the hostess that all 11 people had arrived, they had moved us to the bottom of the list! True, at 11:55 am the only people from our party that were there were my parents, but they were told they would have a table at 1 pm. What really made me incredibly angry was the way the hostess talked to my mother, she had a very p.o.'d look on her face and practically yelled at my mother. This is the same restaurant that we frequently go to for large family events, but I guarantee you that this visit was the last time. I can tolerate having to wait for a table, but you DO NOT ever talk to your customers in such a way! I work in Customer Service, had I talked to a customer the way the Acropolis hostess did, there's a good chance I would get written up by my manager. Horrible service, a negative 5 stars!!!!!
The last time we went, the lamb dish I had was overcooked and swimming in gravy. My daughter got pastitso, which made her violently ill. The only pleasant thing about this restaurant was the dessert menu, but who wants to deal with the waitstaff to get it?
The owner here is wonderful! I think everything on the menu except the collard greens is made with butter. The menu is extensive but the choices for vegans are limited. However, the staff and owners do try to work with you and prepare the food to meet dietary restrictions. The desserts are the highlight of this restaurant. You can't beat the baklava cheesecake. The Strawberry Patch cake is amazing. I have never had anything I don't like out of the bakery case. We like to go just for dessert when in town.
