Description

The owner of this delightful tearoom is a British export and mother of famed University of Tennessee football player, John Becksvoort. Throughout the day she serves an Afternoon Tea featuring a pot of tea along with an assortment of sandwiches. A scone served with Devon cream, jam and lemon curd is included along with various English biscuits. The Victorian Tea includes a choice of dessert along with English cheese and crackers. You can share this British bounty with a dining companion for only one dollar. Traditional lunches such as the famous "Ploughman's Lunch" are also prepared. Fine English porcelain, British groceries and candies fill the front parlor along with various specialty imports from the UK. Queen Anne furniture and tables topped with exquisite lace tablecloths and roses set the dining room.

One of my favorite places! It's definitely more of a female place than a male place. I love to take my Mom and daughter.

I think the restaurant is overpriced on everything. They even charge you if you refill your teapot.

Below average

The food is pretty good, but the wait was not worth it. Service was a little below what I expected. Again, there is a lot of buildup and not a lot of delivery. Dining room is too crowded and noisy.

A Taste of England
By ,
For anyone who wants a TRUE Tea Room experience, YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TIME TO GO TO THE English Rose. Everything and everyone is at it's best!!!! The food is authentic and the people are WONDERFUL!! Angela and her staff treat everyone like family and the food is served to perfection. After traveling to England, the English Rose is the closest thing to being there that I have found. Thanks for all the wonderful memories

We eat here often!
By ,
This restaurant is so great! The waitstaff are friendly and well-informed, the location is neat, and the food is wonderful! Try the Cornish pasties, banger on a roll, or sticky toffee pudding. Also, they have the best scones I've ever had!

Makes business fun
By ,
I am often in Chattanooga on business, and I love to find a reason be in the area and have lunch. Each time that I visit, I wish that I had someone else with whom to share the experience. If you have to wait to be seated, looking at all the speciality items is entertaining. Even the visit to WC is an adventure with a special key and a trip down the hallway to find it! The whole experience seems so British.

Like being in England with Granny
By ,
My Granny was English and The English Rose reminds me so much of her. I've been several times and tried a different menu item each time - and let me tell you, Granny would have approved!! The pasties tasted just as good as hers, as did everything else I tried. We even took our twin grand-daughters to their very first tea at the English Rose; the waitress was just wonderful with them, and they had their own minature tea cups - what a wonderful experience for all of us! This is my all time favorite restaurant in Chattanooga. I'd give it ten stars if I could.

A True British Tea Room
By ,
The English Rose is the best Tea Room in the U.S. It is a true British Tea Room. My sister and I love to go there often. They have the best tea! Our other favorite is the Potato Soup. It is definitely a place you must visit while in the Chattanooga area.

The Real Deal
By ,
The English Rose serves tea in true 'British style'. The tea comes in a proper teapot, steaming from the freshly drawn and boiled water, and accompanied by low fat milk so as not to overpower the delicious brown nectar! These little touches are so very important, and make all the difference when taking the first sip from that anticipated cup. Angela, the owner, doesn't take any short cuts on the menu either. They don't serve 'fake' cream with the scones, it's the real Double Devon, and if you order a British Banger, by golly thats what you get! There are enough items on the carefully chosen menu to satisfy all, even the less adventurous. Although the ambience is reminiscent of the elegance expected in tearooms of 'yesteryear'....no feather bowers, posh hats or gloves required here...just sit, relax and enjoy a traditional experience, with an honest to goodness, 'pukka cuppa'!
