River Street Deli
The owner of this deli is a long way from his home in New York City, but he has brought a heaping helping of New York along with him. Lively banter between patrons and owner, colorful decor, fresh ingredients, and big portions make this a fun dining experience. Friday nights are theme nights when the deli sports fresh linens and fine silver and serves up dishes from Italy, Spain, Key West, Florida and other exotic locales. Call for reservations for Friday night dinner.
My family and I absolutely LOVE this deli! The owner is a character--very entertaining. They play the best music. My daughter and I have food allergies and he always figures out something special for us to have and it never fails to be wonderful! We literally drive two hours to go to this place and then head upstairs to Clumpies Ice Cream for dessert and on to the carousel and the park for a day of fun in Coolidge Park. You really owe it to yourself to take the family and make a day or a weekend of it! (Don t forget your swimsuit, towel, and extra dry clothes!)
this place a a great find. the food is great - the lunch menu is varied and everything i've had so far has been delicious. servings are pretty generous and there are some unusual combos on the specials menu, which seems to change daily.
i've been to chattanooga on business 4 times over the past five years, and every time i come into town i head to this place for lunch. if i'm here for 3 days, it's 3 lunches at river street. the owner is very friendly (and funny) and makes you feel right at home. i highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great lunch at a moderate price.
My sandwich was creative and huge! My wife loved it aslo. I even had a cold beer with my NY inspired sandwich. We want to go back for the reservations only themed dinner on Friday night!
We went because of the raving reviews from some of the execs and managers in my company.
They were right! This place is the best DELI in Chattanooga and North Georgia for that matter.
I just went for the first time, and was extremely impressed. I had the daily special which happened to be thickly sliced roast beef on a hoagie roll with marinara and mozzarella cheese. The bread was soft and flavorful--clearly baked fresh this very morning. The roast beef was juicy and tender, and the marinara was appropriately seasoned with chunks of tomatoes rather than puree. This was served up in less than 5 minutes from the time I ordered--perfect for a lunch break during the work day. My only negative comment would be that sandwich could have been a bit hotter. Other than that, the food was excellent and the service friendly.
this place is a find! large portions of great tasting food, big tasty sandwiches, and an atmosphere that makes you feel at home. you consistantly get a great lunch here, and the price is right.
my business takes me to chattanooga several times a year, and i eat lunch here every day when i'm in town. along with the regular lunch menu, bruce, the owner, runs specials on most days, and he's really good at cooking up dishes from lots of different places, each with its own style. he also seems to know 90% of the people that come into the place, and they know him. half the fun is listening in on the chatter between him and his customers. this is a whole different experience than eating at one of those chain restauarants.
all in all, one of the best eating spots i've found.
You'll be hard-pressed to find the interesting and delicious sandwich combinations that are available at River Street. The ham, cheddar and apple butter is my favorite, closely followed by the salsa turkey with pepper jack cheese. Great sides, too, including fruit and pasta salads and gourmet chips.
