Description

The Mad Platter Restaurant, located minutes from downtown in Historic Germantown, offers daily changing menus and an award-winning wine list. An example of our dishes include: filet of beef tenderloin cracked black pepper crusted and topped with stilton and red wine gastrique, sauteed shrimp and andouille over sun-dried tomato and parmesan polenta and the mad platter rack of lamb marinated, seared, and slow-roasted to order in a dijon rosemary crust. Owners Craig and Marcia Jervis met in 1984 while catering the Jackson Victory Tour, fell in love and have been cooking together, literally, ever since. In 1989, after five years of catering, they opened The Mad Platter Restaurant. Voted Nashville's Best Special Occasion Dining and Most Romantic Dining, by Citysearch in 2006, Mad Platter also received 2007 Citysearch's award for Best Caterer and The Nashville Scene's award for Best Date Spot.

My husband and I had dinner at the MP a few weeks ago. The restaurant is situated in an old store front and has retained much of its original character, giving the place a unique, warm, and close ambiance. Unlike most restaurants, we did not feel any pressure to hurry through our meal to make room for the next diners. Good food, excellent atmosphere and service.

Not exactly what i expected
By .Strawberry., 7/19/06
Well my family went and ate at this place. The location of it was completely out of downtown in somewhat of a different neighborhood. The outside of the place is quite distracting. I was thinking it wasn't nice, but when i walked it i really like how it was decorated. It had bookshelfs, and local artists pictures on the wall, which were brick walls. The food was not your average american food. All of the food has something that you wouldn't use on an average. The deserts are to die for; bananas fosters were wonderful and the chocolate mocha one is awesome. Overall this place would be a great date place. The lighting is low, the music is soft and classical. The service is not bothering, they give you time to relax and enjoy time together. They aren't rushing you. Overall i would go back there to eat, but i would go back for desert coffee, and a nice chat with my husband or significant other.

Celebrating out mother's 90th birthday at Mad Platter was a huge success. The staff, the menu, the ambience made our experience perfect. We won't miss an opportunity to return.

good food, friendly service, decent pricing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/05
Pros: - nice, romantic, quiet atmosphere - patient, friendly, and informative server (not stuffy though!) - great food: we had a duck dish, and rack of lamb dish, and a filte mignon dish, and all were delicious and great portions. The asparagus with white truffle oil made us all swoon. - ingredients all taste so fresh and alive. I think their thing is using fresh, seasonal ingredients, and shaping their menu accordingly. It shows. - for the quality of food, we had a pretty cheap meal; the 6 of us each had an app/salad, an entree, dessert and coffee (no wine) for $220. You do the math. - open on Sunday for dinner - There is a cheap ($30-$50) 5 course option which allows you to chose a soup, salad, appetizer, entree, and dessert. Portions are big enough that it's a great deal for 2! Cons: - I can't think of any.

Unique atmosphere, excellent dining for the brave
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/5/05
The Mad Platter provides a unique dining atmosphere in an old restored home. The menu offers eclectic dining experiences and changes often. The atmosphere is very romantic and perfect for special evenings. The Bananas Foster (if its on the menu that night!) is to die for!! PROS: Unique menu offerings, romantic, quaint CONS: Not for picky eaters, reservations needed

Fabulous!
By Barely Conscious, 8/26/05
My husband and I visit the Mad Platter every year for our wedding anniversary, and they've never disappointed us. In fact, the first time we went, my husband mentioned it was our anniversary when he made the reservations (highly recommended), and we arrived that night to find a lovely, hand-written note on our table wishing us the best on our special night. Not too many other restaurants go to such lengths to make their patrons feel special! I recommend the rack of lamb or filet. And don't miss the chocolate Elvis for dessert!

Not closed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/05
I love the Mad Platter and felt panic when I saw the review that says "it has been closed for some time." It has NOT been closed and is open as always. It is my favorite restaurant in Nashville. My wife and I celebrate Valentine's Day there every year!

It's REALLY all about you!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/20/04
One of the first reasons to visit historic Germantown in North Nashville. Familiar faces treat you well in this unpretentious 19th century storefront restaurant. Exceptional fare from the kitchen is familiar to regular guests. Rack of Lamb for dinner and lunchtime's award-winning "Pasta Mad Platter" lead the menu while signature desserts such as Bananas Foster, Chocolate Elvis and Death by Chocolate provide a perfect finish for both.
The Mad Platter offers full service catering with the same attention to detail in the preparation and presentation for any event, large or small.
I highly recommend this Nashville dining treasure, and have no doubt your experience will take you back again.
