A few of us from work decided to go out to sushi for lunch one day and someone recommended Sake which is down the street from our office. I'd never been there before and I'm always on the lookout for some good sushi so I was eager to check it out.
The place looks nice and the service was satisfactory, but the quality of the fish was very poor. We ordered the Godzilla, Futomaki, and Rainbow Rolls (as well as a few others) and those weren’t bad. The cuts of fish on the Rainbow were so skimpy, you could clearly see right through to the rice underneath. We also ordered about 25 pieces of nigiri. Again, the cuts were greedily thin, and the texture and quality was way below anyone’s standards. Salmon should be a bright orange with white highlights, but this more brown than orange and the stripes were more gray than white. The Tuna too had more brown in it than red and the Albacore had rough edges. One of our party found bone in her unagi.
Right before the food was delivered I was commenting on the prices. The prices for the rolls are typical, but $1.85 for each of those brown salmon? Most places charge around $2.95 for a pair of bright orange salmon.
If you’re looking to get your sushi fix near the Cools Springs Galleria, try Omikoshi instead.
Located in the shopping plaza near the five and diner, lenny's sub shop, and academy sports on mallory lane the Sake Japanese Restaurant offers delicious sushi at very low prices.
Go in and order the sushi lunch combo. 3 pieces of chef's choice nigiri and 8 pieces of a crunchy or california roll for around 8 bucks. Comes with the standard side salad w/ ginger dressing and a tasty miso soup.
I've also had the teriyaki bento boxes.. tasty.
I recommend this place for the price and convenience. The place is never packed and the servers do a good job of taking care of you.
