We went to this restaurant this past weekend. It was good. Nothing super special. It is very casual and laid back. It is on the river and that was nice. The cole slaw was good. Cornbread was also good...

The first time we ate here, we loved it. This time, we hated it. The best I can say about this restaurant is that it's inconsistent. We were there for dinner and had the fried shrimp. The shrimp was obviously frozen, and the grease was either too hot or too old because the batter tasted burned. They brought insufficient condiments. When we asked for "lots of tartar sauce," we got 1 small plastic cup each. When my husband asked for more butter, he got 1 small plastic cup. Even though the restaurant was less than half full, they sat us at a bad table--lots of bustling by, waiters nearly running into each other. The cole slaw and hush puppies were great, but for $30.00, I can go someplace else for coleslaw. We may eat there again, but it will be a long, long time. I've had better shrimp at Captain D's or Long John Silver's. Be careful what you order.

The food, the service, everything was awesome. I recommend the fried crawfish and gulf shrimp...out-of-this-world! A tip though, don't eat too much cole slaw and cornbread they bring you while you wait on the meal...their meals have large portions, you'll be stuffed...lol.

This is a review from a 1985 visit to Top O the River when I was a lonely GI (from California) at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. On my first weekend pass I ventured out into town and wanted to try some real Southern cuisine. Well, my sergeant recommended this place Top O the River just outside the gates of the post, and, man, 25 years later, I still think about that great meal! I just remember that I ordered a bit of everything on the menu.... catfish, chicken, corn, greens, hush puppies... and it was all outstanding and different from any other regional food I had ever tasted. The catfish was so tasty, and it became the standard by which I judged all catfish thereafter. The service also was top-notch, warm and hospitable, as it usually was around town for us soldiers (who supported the local economy). Top O the River was my first real "taste" of the deep South and it greatly contributed to my fond memories and impressions of Alabama.

My graduating class came to the Anniston location for our annual dinner. We had about 20 people, and the staff was very accommodating. Our servers were wonderful; the food was cooked to exact order, and everyone's order was correct! Cudos to Anniston TOTR for EXCELLENT service!

My family all live on Sand Mountain in Guntersville, and when we come down we all try to go to Top o River for dinner. There is no place like it. They accomadate a huge crowd, never mix up any orders and you always get so much food that you can't possibly eat it all. This is a down home place to eat. Dont expect it not to be noisy cause most restaurants are. You need to ask to be seated upstairs then. If your a snob and expect 5 star dining at the price you pay here then go somewhere else. Didnt hear any complaints about the food though cause it is always top notch. Wish they had one of these up north where I live. Hate that we don't have any kind of restaurants that serve this kind of food. The north jus don't know what they are missing.

Loud, greasy and not really that good, but if you want alot of 'food' for your money then this is it. I will say that the catfish wasn't bad, but the side items were awful

Top Of the River is one of the best places to go to for seafood, chicken fingers and corn bread and cole slaw. Services is great and usually very clean. Staff is very friendly.
