I love Butlers new menu. Butlers closed the seafood buffett and switched to a new manu that has everyone in the community excited. Affordable at only $7.95 and up the catfish is delicious. The locals are visiting every weekend! Right now there is no wait and they are just getting the word out that they have re-opened with a hot fresh menu of shrimp, catfish, crab. I live right down the road and missed them sooo much! Thank you Butlers for comiing back! We missed you.
I found this place to be very run down last night. It was a Friday night and there were less than 10 other customers. Bad sign for a weekend night. The buffet was 15.00 but you had to pay 8.00 more if you wanted crab legs. Some food was warm but other fried foods that are better hot were not warm at all. The veggies looked like they had been cooked and left standing for hours. The salad bar was fresh enough. The fried catfish was good and also the hushpuppies. But for the most part the food was just so so.......not worth the hours drive to get there. After paying 78.00 for four people to eat plus tip, my husband wanted to take his dessert that was included in the meal with him in a small tiny cup mind you and he got charged for it before he went out the door!!!! Now if the place was packed and they were running out, I could MAYBE understand...but it was empty and almost time to close. WILL NOT BE BACK. We eat in Panama City, Atlanta, Birmingham, and Douglasville Ga and in no way did this Historical landmark live up to the other places we have eaten.
The couple that was with us had been before and said it was not the same as when they had come before and thought maybe it had changed owners. Even the river was dried up and there was no view of the water and water sports as the webpage indicated. I usually do not give bad reviews bc I don't experience them that often but if this business what to keep customers they need to make some improvements and I hope they do bc I see potential for this old historical building with character.
After hearing about Butler's Mill and reading the reviews, we decided to make the one hour trip in search of some good, fresh seafood. We were so disappointed to find that much of the seafood was frozen breaded seafood like you buy in the grocery store. There were no scallops on the bar either. The buffet no longer included crab legs, so that was an additional charge of $8 per pound. Our crab legs had to be replaced because they were not hot, and one cluster was brown on the bottom. I don't know if there has been a change in management or just adjustments on pricing, but several other customers who came in after us were upset when they found out that crab legs were no longer on the buffet. It was not really busy when we got there around 5:00 p.m. and most of the food I got was either cold or barely warm. I don't know if the server was not warming properly (or not warming at all), but the oysters, crab, and fried pickles were cold. The fries, onion rings, and chicken were barely warm. I told the waitress when she came by our table that the food was not hot and she told me she would tell the cook. We were born and raised around the coast and grew up on fresh seafood, and nothing else can compare to the taste. This restaurant may satisfy others' taste for seafood, but I could not recommend it as a source for fresh seafood. The meal was very pricey at $25 per person (this included 1 lb of crab legs, but not the tip for the waitress). For that amount of money you expect fresh, hot seafood, and not a frozen breaded product. You never know how it is until you try a place, but this was one of those times when we should have looked at the food bar before we decided to eat there. No doubt this was our first and last visit to Butler's Mill.
went to butlers mill last night 29 oct 11 the food was a big disappointment. no stuffed crab no oysters of any kind and the crablegs were not even hot. the rest of the food was just ok.I feel duped because we had to pay first ($56) then find out they were out of these items and there were signs on the way that said crabs oysters and shrimp. will not be going back
Went last night and it was GREAT! (7-17-09) They are now only open on Friday & Saturday evenings. Huge seafood buffet. Fried Oysters and catfish fillets were the best!! Oysters biggest I've seen outside of Apalachicola, Fl. Whole catfish, shrimp, clams, chicken tenders, frog-legs, all excellent. Fried green tomatoes, collards, corn, all delish!! Crablegs, too. Service great. Will definitely go back!
This place is GREAT!!!!! We just went tonight with a party of 30 and everyone enjoyed it. The service was wonderful and so was the food. They have a good selection. They even have frog legs!!! Taste like chicken don't cha know! The creamed corn was some of the best I've ever had! The hushpuppies were to die for! I can't wait to go again. It was well worth the trip!! I give it 5 stars*****!
Visited Butlers last weekend with friends from out town and had a great time. The business is a little slow now that the summer visitors have gone home from the lake and football season is on, but we were really happy with the selection and service. Crab legs are no longer on the bar, but we were happy to include them for only $8. They were big and juicy! Loved the whole catfish. Will be back often!
My experiences have been wonderful at Butler's Mill. Originally a cotton mill, Butler's Mill is now one of the best restaurants/buffets showcasing the best in Southern cuisine. It also has a good selection of seafood. Some of my favorites include: fried chicken tenders, fried fish, okra, collards, mac/cheese, a full salad bar, hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, fried dill pickles (excellent), and rolls with honey butter. If you're not sufficiently stuffed, one can indulge in homemade cobblers (the last time I frequented this establishment, there was peach and strawberry) and homemade ice cream. The quality of service is exemplary.
Because of the popularity of this place, it draws many people from both Alabama and Georgia. It's important to get there early. I've also enjoyed the seating close to the window to watch the river flow over the dam.
