I have been dinning at this place since I first discovered it late last year. Recently moving due to the military, I was quite happy with my discovery of Ala Thai in Montgomery AL. I had been wanting to introduce this place to a friend of mine. Finally I was able to bring her, along with her family. She inquired with our waitress whether they had alcohol. Our waitress said they did not have a liquor license. We then inquired a second time when we noticed a table across the way being served alcoholic beverages. This time, it was a second waitress serving on us, that told us she would have to get back to us. She left and about a minute later, she came back and told us, "No, no alcohol". We pointed out the other customers being severed, and she quickly walked away. Finally, a person working there that had not been serving us, came up to our table and asked us what he could help us with. I decided to confront the supervisor (our first waitress), who told us they did not have a liquor license. I told her exactly how I felt about our service, and being lied to. She then said that they did not have a liquor license, and drinks were complimentary. You need a liquor license to serve alcohol whether it's complimentary or not. It was clearly discrimination and the disrespect that followed it was astounding.

Outstanding! I've been a patron since they first opened in 1998/1999. I love their selection and service. It is nicer now that they've moved to updated location on Ann Street.

This is the original of the three Ala Thai restaraunts. It's hours have been reduced but it's still one of the best bets for good Thai food in Montgomery. As an alternative, head to the new Ala Thai on Atlanta Highway. However, stay away from the Ala Thai off of Ann Street next to the Wal Mart. After being grossly overcharged in three consecutive visits, I no longer patronize that location. For an example, a large bowl of tom yum came with a $12 price tag or twice the cost of the other two locations.

Wow!

Ala Thai food is os good. I started eating the food about two years ago when I worked for the city of Montgomery and I have been eating every since at a rate of once a week. The restaurant is never to crowded and the service is always great. The food is so good! I love it!

Awesome!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/06
AlaThai is one of my all time favorite restaurants. I could go just for the spring rolls and thai iced tea. The service, food, and prices are all exceptional. I usually eat at AlaThai once a week, and no matter what dish I order, I am always satisfied when I leave. It is also so nice to go to a restaurant where I can eat my meal in peace. It's relaxing and just an overall awesome place to eat!!

Exceptional Thai cuisine
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/3/05
Ala Thai's food is fresh and delicious. The Spring Rolls are like a breath of fresh air compared to the deep fried egg rolls that one normally expects. The Tom Yum soup (a mix between hot & sour and Won Ton) has the most flavorful and surprising bounty and variety of herbs and spices I've encountered in any soup. The Pud Thai is not as spicy as what I have been accustomed but with the help of some spices provided on the table can be made warmer to your preference. But the taste cannot be beat. The sauces are flavorful and unique. The portions are plentiful. You can tell the chef prides himself on the presentation of the food as well as the taste and it's a first rate experience. Even the restaurant itself is inviting, with unconventional booths using freestanding wedge pillows as backrests and a "white table cloth" feeling throughout. Two thumbs up! A very nice addition to the restaurant list in Montgomery.

Best Thai in the South!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/05
I have been traveling to Montgomery from Atlanta once a week for the past 4 years and I go to Ala Thai, without fail, everytime I am hungry and in Montgomery. The staff are wonderful, friendly and accomadating. The food is fabulous. I love the green curry, the Pad See Ew, the Panang Curry, the Tom Yum soup...oh how I could go on. I have been to Thailand, lived in San Francisco and generally had access to good Thai food, Ala Thai is top notch.

Excellent

The Ala Thai may not be the highest as far as atmosphere goes. Somewhat crowded, and the architecture is not that appealing...however, the food is absolutely great and the service is very good. Great prices.

Best Thai Food in the country?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/05
We've taken numerous out-of-town guests to Ala Thai, and all consistently rave about this place. Even our guests from Hawaii were impressed with Ala Thai. For starters, the Thai Rolls are refreshing and crisp while the peanut sauce provides a delicious companion. The Dumpling Noodle soup with shrimp, barbecue pork, bean sprouts, and vegetables has been known to cure the common cold (and it does wonders for a hangover). My favorite is the Panang Noodles with Chicken -- a spicy curry dish that stimulates the taste buds yet doesn't overpower. A great value for the money....And why does the water taste so good!

Vegetarian-friendly!
By C, 5/20/05
The food here is great and the staff is very helpful -- they will gladly substitute tofu in any of the meat dishes. It's the best Thai food I've had in Montgomery (the spring rolls leave much to be desired, but the rest of the menu makes up for that).
