********ROACHES **** BEWARE ************
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/9/09
*****ROACHES - - BEWARE ****Today, 7/9/2009, I had lunch at Earl's Place on the Atlanta HWY in Montgomery, AL. I was DISAPPOINTED. No napkins. Had to flag down "someone" for tea TWICE. Was delivered watered down tea, no lemon and inadequate Sweet & Low/sugar quantities on the table. Broccoli & cheese was served cold. After consuming about 1/4 of my meal I discovered I had company wiggling on the floor under my table. I first thought about bringing everyone's attention to my company but decided to rake the remainder of my food off in a to-go box for my dog. My company was the JUMBO size roach and he looked well fed. I guess they are still looking for my tip.Warren Carlisle

They have CLOSED!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/9/09
When I first moved to MGM, a co-worker and I used to frequent the Earl's downtown. One day, with no notice, we were informed they were closed. Then, I saw an Earl's on Atlanta Hwy. I thought the place was too sophisticated to be old Earl's so I didn't go to it. Another co-worker said they were one in the same. Old Earl's - let you get your food to go and gave you a bunch of it New Earl's - won't let you eat in if you get it to go and wont let you get it to go if you eat in and they give you just enough Old Earl's - very friendly and nice New Earl's - mean and rude (where is the heavy set cashier girl) Old Earl's - you got your drink yourself, but at least you got it New Earl's - won't give you your drink until you are ready to go Old Earl's - the food was delicious New Earl's - the food is just okay I will not be returning to NEW EARL's; Davis Cafe' is WWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better! I actually lick my plate at Davis. (Well, not really--LOL!)

Earl's Place is great. The portions are large (enough for two meals), the food is delicious (especially the greens), and the staff is very friendly. I would eat there everyday if my waistline would tolerate it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for good ol'fashioned homecooking.

Earl's Place is now open on Atlanta Hwy. in the old Shoney's location. I ate there last week and it was delicious! You get huge portions and everything was good--nothing over seasoned or salted. The staff are very nice and service was good. The decor hasn't changed much from when it was The Chop Shop but it works. They are also taking catering orders according to a sign on the counter.

Southern Cookin
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/27/07
This is another place that serves good home cooked Southern foods. Although some of the things on the menu I have never cooked, I have at least tried one of them. The price for a meal is better than you would think.

True soul food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/12/07
This place is no longer call Earl's, but the same family still operates it. If you like ox tails, chitlings, smothered pork chops, turkey and dressing, collards, yams, homemade cakes and pies, then this is the place for you. Good value...the meals range from $6-$7 w/tax and includes your meat, three sides and a drink. You can even substitute a side for a dessert.

Earl's Place
By JESSICA, 5/18/06
Earl's Place is great place to eat especially for those how don't have alot of cash but still want to eat quality food. It is also very convenient for soldiers who are a long way from home but want that home cooking.
