Well the CharBurger has came a long way since i was a kid back in the 70s and 80s. After 25 years away i returned to Guntersville for a vacation with wife and 4 kids. To my surprise and enjoyment as i crossed the old causeway there stood the place after all the years looking just as i remembered. Told the family this is where we are having lunch ( attempted to tell stories about my childhood outings but no one wanted to listen they wanted to eat ) Upon walking in i realized this was not the same place. A little tiny area inside had been transformed into a very modern restaurant with about twenty booths and 2 large flat screen televisions on opposite walls. I thought to myself i hope they still have great burgers and shakes. We walked to the counter to order and was pleasantly surprised by the menu. Offering the burgers and shakes of course and usual burger joint food footlong chili-dog, corndogs, onion rings but also fried shrimp and catfish, philly cheesesteaks, reubens, chicken fingers, and several other sandwiches also a plate lunch that we learned changed daily and only served on weekdays. Fortunately it was Monday and their plate lunch consisted of 1 meat and 2 or 3 vegetables plus a roll or cornbread. The offerings for the day were meatloaf, fried catfish, and boneless grilled pork chops plus about seven or eight vegetables. Of course i had the large Wild-Cat Burger, onion rings, and a chocolate shake (old fashion kind where they actually hand dip the ice cream add real milk and blend it together not the usual soft serve automated junk ) The wife had a plate with meatloaf, real mashed potatos, and green beans. The 2 older kids decided on a reuben a philly cheesesteak and fries. The 2 younger ones had chicken fingers a corndog and fries. Everyone had shakes. After ordering we were given a ticket and told our order would be brought to us. We took 2 booths in front of one tv watched sportscenter and waited about ten minutes for our lunch. Everything was cooked to order piping hot and was excellent easily rivaling the quality of any fast food place and even better than some of the meals at Applebees. The total check was $42 and we stuck $3 in the tip cup. Upon leaving we were all stuffed and they still didn't want to hear any childhood memories. Needless to say when back in the area we will always visit CharBurger.
