EDO Japanese Restaurant, Madison

Sushi is mediocre. The service is awful. The dining and entrance area is cramped. The owner and the service staff are all unpleasant and not informational about anything. Of the 2 times (only because of it's convenience and proximity) I've been to this restaurant, I consider both times a bad experience. I will not return to Edo under the current owner and staff.

The best sushi. Our family has been eating at Edo's for more than 15 years. Great atmosphere, service and reasonable prices. A must visit when in Madison.

Edo is a favorite place to go have lunch. Their lunch box costs $7 and is huge in size. Its got two entrees, rice, soup, salad as well as a piece of fruit. You have to be really hungry to be able to consume it all. Avoid ordering anything special at lunch time though, even Sushi, since they are geared to serving the basics and your order can take a long time to arrive. We have even walked out of there due to slow service once or twice but keep going back due to the good food an reasonable pricing.

Overcooked, greasy tempura - very 'fishy' salmon teriyaki and dreadful service! Tuna sushi WAS wonderful, but not wonderful enough to entice us to retuen for another try. Very disappointing!

Edo is my favorite restaurant. The food is yummy and the prices are reasonable. Lately I have had some really slow service and had some orders come back wrong, but I still can't give up my Edo addiction. Warning, get there by 1:00 if you want lunch.

the first impression of this place is really good...but after i sat down at the counter and ordered my food the sushi chef that was right infront of me didn't even bother to say hi or nothing...usually they are supposed to at least be friendly. That is pretty much why you are sitting at the counter to eat sushi. Also to have conversation and to be able to get served by the sushi chef himself. NOPE NONE of that at this place. Plus i had to ask to get more water put in my cup since i was running on empty for a good 20 minutes! I am not exagerating! Really no good experience. It only was just the vibe that you get from the decorations and the building that was excellent! I will never go back there again...

Better than Surin

We made reservations and were seated immediately even though the restaurant was full. The sushi was really good. We tried the tempura roll. Which was fantastic. We also tried the crunchy shrimp roll which I have to say I've had much better elswhere but still good. The california roll was very good. I also ordered the chicken teriyaki and spring roll combo. The spring rolls were very good and the teriyaki sauce was wonderful. The cut of chicken was gross because it had a thick layer of fat on it. So, I would recommend ordering the teriyaki shrimp or salmon next time. Don't go there in a hurry because everything took a pretty long time to get to the table. But if you like good sushi it's worth the wait. Our server was hard to understand, pretty pushy and a little rude.
