Big Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Q, Decatur

The bar-be-que was okay, not the best in North Alabama. If you want the best, go to Mud Creek in Fackler, AL. or Triple R in Scottsboro, AL.

The food comes in small portions and isn't good enough for the price they charge for it. Worst of all the staff is very off-putting. They act as though you are inconviencing them by coming in and asking for food. I live less than a mile away from their restaurant and I would drive across town to eat somewhere else.

The food is great, except the new way that you are making the cole slaw, please go back to the original way that you used to grate the cabbage. The last times we have ate there the cabbage is so fine it is mushy! Not good!

I went to Bob Gibsons on a Sunday May 20th 2012 for a lunch with my family. I have been going here for over 20 years, but this was the absolutely WORST experience I have ever had there. We ordered 3 loaded potatoes which are usually large enough to cover the entire plate overstuffed with the topping of your choice. However when we got ours it was the size of a basic wal-mart potato nothing special with less of everything... very disappointing when you consider that the potatoes are almost 7.00 each! I said it was not the norm for us to have such a small portion so the waitress got the manager who was very rude in dealing with me, my wife and 2 kids, after I had stated that I disapproved the potatoes and would not pay for THOSE potatoes she said it was luck of the draw and that there was nothing wrong with the portions even though she admitted to them being much smaller and less portions than normal; she whisked them off the table and said I could have my tea but I insisted on paying but she did not bring a ticket.. so I got a tea. We drove 20 miles for this and stood outside waiting for 30 minutes! Poor customer service on managements part, just a word of caution dont go on Sunday you end up with substandard service from management and probably poor portions for you 7 dollar potato.

Never been a big fan of Big Bob Gibson but, in general it s good. I do believe that they do different receipes for Memphis in May and Food Network, etc... The desserts are wonderful and when they have the bananna pudding pie it s absolutely out of this world. As far as eating the BBQ I prefer Whitt s.

Being new to the area, we were excited to try this 'famous' place. Either they served the Food Network different food, or things have just gone downhill, but we will not be going back....the chicken was dry and the brisket was so tough that it was inedible. The only thing that was any good was the potato salad and beans. Huge disappointment.

Ok. Here goes. I have to write about our family tradition. For the past 45 +years I have been eating at Big Bob's. Yes, my family knew Big Bob - we would go after church , holidays etc. to eat bar b q. I fell in love with a pulled pork sandwich with slaw, a cup of brunswich stew a side of slaw and a slice of chocolate pie. That's what I get every time for the past 45 years. We sometimes grab a couple pounds of pork with the trimmings to bring home....my favorite trip was taking a cooler on the plane (before security changes-I bet they would confiscate it today). Let's just say we had a lot of interested folks who smelled the pork and wasn't sure we'd make it home with it. SO for many years we have made it a tradition to go by Big Bob's- it reminds us of happy times now that many family members are gone it is a very special time to stop and have a sandwich and extras. We have had takeout back to Texas and now Tennessee. We even treated the travel volleyball team to dinner returning from U.of A. tournament. They loved it too! SO compare if you may however sometimes the tradition is bigger than the size of the sandwich.......oh and you can't believe how excited we were when we found a Big Bob's near Wingate University- we are even more excited to visit our daughter at college. There is a GOD.

I have to say the staff does make one feel as if one is lucky to be dining at Big Bobs. Feel a bit like a slave who has been allowed to eat at the table for the first time. Horrible atmosphere. Food is adequate. Certainly not awesome. And with that price vs the portion size, I'd say Bob sure is arrogantly proud of his BBQ. Whitt's serves the same size sandwich for a 1.99 that Bob charges over 3 dollars for. Whitts is every bit as good. Big Bob is a Big Boob whose BBQ is WAY overrated!!! I give the food 3 stars but the atmosphere and attitude of the serving staff are pathetic which causes me to give ol' Bob a 2-star rating. If you're looking for take out its average. If you're looking for a relaxing and pleasant dining experience ---- Look elsewhere!

This is the best Bar-B-Q in Northern Alabama!! Their people welcome you in with warm freindly smiles :-) I have ate their alot over my 47 years. I have found no B-Q place that can stand up to them. It's really good & if you give them a try you will prefer them to any other. They have chicken, turkey, beef, pork & there brunswick stew is out of this world!! So if are ever in the huntsville - decatur area & wont some really good B-Q then this place is the one for you & your familys :-)

I'm on a job in south Florida and cannot wait to get back to get a family pack with pork meat, and a chicken baked potato! Sonny's here in Clewiston Fl. is nasty. 20% meat and the rest fat/bones. Keep up the good work Big Bob's!
