The last reviewer must be someone that just likes to complain as I have NEVER had an experience like what she described at the Hoover Jim N Nick's. My Mom and I ate here on Sept. 24th- a HUGE football Friday in Hoover- and had the same, delicious pork platter meal as always and we have been eating here for more than 12 years. The GM treated us like guests in his own home, our waiter was phenomenal, and the food was delicious! When the sweet tea we first got wasn't sweet like it usually is, our server said he understood exactly what we meant and came back with the sweet tea you come to expect from this restaurant. The bread rolls are to die for, the sides are still homemade fresh like advertised and I just wished that I still lived at home so that I could enjoy this food on a more frequent basis. Long live Jim N Nick's!!!!
My husband and I stopped at Jim n Nicks in Hoover to have lunch today. We were given a table that had sauce all over it.
We pointed this out to the waiter, who moved us to another table. When I settled into the seat I began to unflod my cloth napkin.
I was sickened to see food and grease stains inside. There was half of a baked bean stuck to the napkin lining. As I folded the
napkin out further, I discovered sauce was smeared all over. I then noticed the fork, which appeared to have been used and never washed.
The waiter brought us new siverware and napkins. Both forks in the second set of silverware had food in between the tines.
We brought this to the attention of the waiter, who glared at my husband and said he would take care of it.
He brought back two forks partially wrapped in a paper napkin and dropped them on the table before walking away. At this point,
I was so disgusted that I wanted to leave. My husband motioned to the waiter to cancel our food order.
The waiter flipped his hand under his chin, the meaning of this gesture being so vulgar it can't be mentioned in a restaurant review.
We left our table and headed to the door. On the way out my husband was so mad he demanded to speak to the manager. When the manager
walked up to us my husband told him about our less than stellar experience. The manager just looked at us and asked us to step
outside to discuss the issue. Step outside??? Seriously??? Never once did he apologize. He just stood there looking like a deer
caught in headlights.
In summary, this restaurant is nasty and the staff is beyond rude. Birmingham has way too many other options for BBQ.
I think it is safe to say we won't ever be back to this, or any, Jim n Nick's locations.
P.S.-We drove further down I-65 and went to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse in Alabaster. The service was impeccable and the
restaurant was clean. The staff of Jim n Nick's could learn a few things from the employees at Longhorn.
My daughter and I ate at the location on US 31 by the Mercedes dealership on April 13th. The food is always fabulous, and the service is always good. However, this particular experience, thanks to Rudy, our waiter, the experience was the best I've ever had at Jim 'n Nicks, and the best service I have EVER gotten.
I can't begin to tell you how nice it is to dine at a place where your waiter makes you feel like you're the most important person in the world! Seriously! Thank you, Rudy. You are aces, 5 stars, and a 15 out of a possible 10!!!
First of all let me start by saying my review is for the one in alabaster. Yahoo is not up to date on thier restaurants!
This is a excellent restaurant which I will definately go again. Since I had a horrible experience at B.F. Changs on 280 I decided to make it up to my hubbie and went here. I'm glad I did! The chesse muffins are delicious!! They had choices for children which the above mentioned restaurant did not(son ate the chicken fingers here) I got the hambuger steak and creamed spinach. Both were very good! My hubbie got the 2 meat platter. He had to bring some home in a doggie bag lol. Our service was excellant! Our waiter brung our food in a speedy manner & he was very friendly. Wished I would have went here in the first place. It was just wonderful! Another thing to mention I'm not a BBQUE girl but there are more choices than just barbeque and that's a good thing. I also got some pies to bring home. The waiter said they were made right there in the restuarant. I can't wait to dig in to mine!!
The Nick is not much to look at from the outside; the flat, featureless building covered with handbills almost appears
abandoned. But closer inspection reveals that the handbills are all for upcoming gigs scheduled at this 21+ rock nightclub. ...
