Chez Fon Fon, Birmingham

I love French cuisine, so when some of our friends wanted to introduce us to the new place, my wife (who is French) and I were excited. Unfortunately, the food fell on its face. It was not impressive, the flavors were not well developed, not complimentary of each other. The restaurant its self was nice, and the wait staff was friendly and professional.

No doubt one of the best values in this town. Food is always great. Cocktals are creative and adventerous. I have eaten here maybe 20 times and have yet to be disappointed. If you believe that Frank Stitt -- the chef/owner -- has talent, he displays it here with passion.

Five stars for sure. An excellent staff that is very attentive. Everyone there was quite helpful, from the hostess to the bartender and the waitress. My date and I had heard great things about the food beforehand, but still, it exceeded our expectations. The bar waiter recommended a great French wine that we enjoyed with our bread and appetizers. That was followed by wonderful ribeye steaks and then an incredible coconut cake. Wow! You just have to taste it to believe it. The entire bill for the two of us including alcohol drinks, appetizers, entrees, desert and tips was under $100. We were well pleased. Note from a freind: If you order the chicken, remember that it will be dark meat (That's for all you white meat lover out there). But really everything on the menu is superb.

This is as close as you will get to a cafe in the French countryside without having to travel. The food, the service and the ambience are wonderful.

Chez Fonfon is a little jewel and a great asset for Birmingham. The menu is a wish list for lovers of fine food, and I would probably commit crimes to get another serving of Country Pate. We have never been disappointed in any aspect of our visits there, and I love to take people there from out of town, just to watch their mouths drop open. Food, bar, decor, service, cost -- it's all precisely as it should be. It doesn't get any better than Fonfon.

Have not been to resturant yet but my sons have. They are taking me for my 55th Birthday party, this is my retirement Birthday. All but that snooty women in the last review have nothing but great things to say about Chez Fon Fon, so I am sure it wil be great. Looking forward to a fantastic meal along with outstanding atmosphere. I will be arriving at 6:30 pm so if you happen to have a table waiting it would be fantastic. In my opinion, this little bistro is one of the best kept secrets in Birmingham. Next door to Highlands, Chez Fon Fon is a taste of France in Alabama. Of course, Alabama fare sneaks its way into the menu, but a great cultural experience - without having to drop significant money. The Burger is the best in the Southeast and the omlet / grilled ham and cheese and cheese platter are just wonderful. Love the fact that we can take the children (young ones) or we can go there for a special dinner out. It's casual enough for the fam, but nice enough to make us feel like we're on the Champs-Elys

Ate their at lunchtime...excellent food (the grilled salmon was cooked to perfection), service, ambience...manageable noise level...Food this good is always a value...*****Experience would be great for an intimate dinner, lunch with clients or friends. Many have said this the best restaurant in Birmingham.

Always a pleasure to dine here. The service is excellent, the staff knowledgeable and the food is well prepared. The wine list is interesting and not over-priced. Great dinning spot!

outstanding addition to Frank's collection of restaurants. wide range of entrees and wines sure to please anyone. can be a bit loud at times and they do not take reservations so be ready to wait at peek times.
