i love the chicken wing , gyros, chicken kaboobs and hummas dip...nice environment,Warning if you dont like a bunch of loud college kids around you may wanna try the one on greensprings.

Looks can be deceiving as from the outside this looks like a basic take out eatery. The food itself in wonderful. Offering a full menu of some of the best food in the area. The Kabobs can't be beat, and for the kids they have the best chicken fingers in the world, at least that's what kids say.

The Purple onion Deli offers so much flavor on it's menu. From the Gyros to the desserts, I personally like the Greek salad. From the outside this restaurant doesn't look like much but the food makes up for the appearance.

I love The Purple Onion/Gyro Cafe! I am vegetarian and go there all the time for their falafel and tabouli(parsley salad). They also have great vegetarian dips called hummous and baba ghanoush. Other options are grilled vegetable pita wraps, salads, grilled mushrooms, and wild rice. I moved out of town but every time I come to visit this is the first place I go to eat.

I found this place under a vegetarian search. When I phoned, I was told the only vegetarian dish they have is lamb. Enough said.

Purple Onion is a great place the staff is friendly and that's important to customers. The food is great, you don't have to wait long after you've placed your order. The atmosphere is cozy due to the music softly playing in the background you also have the option to dine inside or outside.

Being a vegetarian (even when ovo-lacto) in Birmingham can be a challenge. The Purple Onion offers a decent Falafel wrap and once in awhile you even get an exceptional tasty Falafel. Not everybody would agree but for me a Falafel has to be crunchy on the outside and moist but not pasty on the inside. The fries are less fatty than in most other places and come seasoned.

They're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The food is inexpensive, tasty, prepared quickly, and delivered to your table. Their salads, gyros, and falafels are awesome, and the kids seem to LOVE their grilled cheese. The patio has ample space when you wish to dine outdoors. They are located within easy walking distance of almost any place in Southside, and just a short drive from anywhere else downtown. What is there NOT to like? Purple Onion has been one of my favorite places for years!

The Best thing on the Menu. I lived there while i was in college. Hummous, Chick in a sack, and fries with the paprika. Best food in town. And don't forget the mint tea. I gotta get back there.

What not to like about Purple Onion. It's the best food in Birmingham. They have the best cheese cake around , that is beside their Gyro which is just great. Purple Onion have satisfied my hunger for soo long, GOD bless them........... Rock On..............
