I was very disappointed with Mangrove Mattie's. I went there for dinner with my girlfriend one Friday evening expecting an enjoyable first class dinner for a change of pace. I'm sorry to say that we were very unhappy with the food we were served. I ordered the Coconut Shrimp dinner expecting to be served a good sized portion of fresh shrimp with all the trimmings. The price certainly reflected it. Instead I was served a portion of what I believe were frozen packaged coconut shrimp. They were terrible. Absolutely flavorless with a batter that I was sure wasn't prepared fresh in their kitchen. The same goes with most of the food served to us, including the appetizers that we ordered. The service was well below par too. We rarely saw our waiter, and when he did come by our table it would take forever for him to return with what we had requested from him. After we had finished eating whatever was edible on our plates I complained to our waiter about the poor quality of the food. His answer consisted of nothing more than shrugged shoulders.
The only thing that we enjoyed at Mangrove Mattie's was the outstanding view of Fort Pierce Inlet.
What can I say. It was okay. If I were an out of towner and here on vacation I think I would have been disappointed. I probably would ahve wished I stopped at the restaurant a couple miles up the road before reaching Mangroves. Tonight I had the conch fritters for a teaser, they were very good, some of the best I've had in the area, the sesame tuna was very good, not the best I've had before but not bad. Service was okay, the server was friendly but seemed to disappear alot and since the restaurant was not busy it really wasn't understandable. All and all I guess I would give it a 3 out of 5
Love the ambiance of this outdoor restaurant and most important is the service that we always get when our large crowd of L.I.,N.Y.'ers gather for our class reunion luncheon. The menu always meets with our expectations.
