The creators of Conchy Joeac2s were acoepioneers in promoting Bahamian recipes and resourcesac|ac, so said Robert W. Tolf, Florida Trend Magazineac2s restaurant reviewer and noted author, in describing Conchy Joeac2s Seafood Restaurant. And it meant a lot to be recognized as acoepioneersac because when we opened our doors back in 1979, the question most often asked was, acoeWhat in the heck are these ac~conshac2 things anyhow?ac (they talked like that back in those days).
Not worth it. Very over priced for what it was. For the price we expected drinks to be filled and service to be better. The service would be expected if you went to a place with a lower price range but not when paying $25-$30 per plate. We went to a sports grill a couple days later and had better service and cloth napkins. We definitely could not say that at Conchy Joe s. Don t waste your time or money.
Stay away unless you enjoy food poisoning!
I contracted Food Poisoning from eating the conch salad at this establishment on Sat May 5th, 2012 @ 5:30pm. Then the restaurant was inspected by the local health dept a week later and cited violations for several RISK & CRITICAL factors including product temperature; cross-contamination; product date labeling and foodservice sanitation/cleanliness!
My symptoms began Monday morning (05/07/2012) around 9am; they worsened significantly at around 11am when I began to vomit repeatedly, at least (5) times, and then the diarrhea commenced about every 1/2 hr from that moment on for the next 24-48 hrs.
I pinpoint the conch salad as it was the only unique item I ate which no one else at my table ate; we were a party of (5). It is also the only uncooked item eaten from that point until the symptoms began. I recall when eating the conch salad; it had an off-taste, bit metallic but continued to eat it anyway since I was very hungry. I did not finish it, rather took the leftovers back to my hotel and never ate it again. I have eaten conch salad on many occasions and enjoy it; but for some reason, this did not taste well and was unable to finish it; I should have known after that first bite to stop.
I often eat raw oysters, ceviches and sushi without abandon and have never in my (40) years become ill; until now. I will never again eat uncooked seafood after this experience; as I have become scared and wish to never experience this again. I am concerned the restaurant failed to properly handle the conch salad; it was either old or held too long, temperature abused or prepared in an unsanitary manner.
WELL WE WENT TO CONCHY JOES MONDAY NIGHT THE SERVICE WAS OK THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE AND THE MANAGEMENT DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE . FIRST OF ALL I ASKED THE WAITRESS ABOUT THE RIBS SEHE SAID I WOULD GET A ''FULL RACK OF RIBS'' SO I ORDERED THEM,ALL I GOT WERE TWO SMALL THREE BONE PIECES NOWHERE NEAR A FULL RACK OF RIBS .MY WIFE ORDERED THE COCOCNUT SHRIMP IT CAME OUT HARD SMALL AND IT TASTED BAD . THE WAITRESS SAID THATS WHAT THE KITCHEN PUT OUT. I WAS SO BOTHERED I CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER HE SAID THAT THEY DID NOT GIVE A FULL RACK BUT THEY USED TOO.THEY DIDNT CHANGE THE MENU HE SAID HE WAS SORRY BUT THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO CONCHY JOES AND WILL NOT RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE
My husband & I just finished a delightful dinner here. The conch fritters were great (I don't typically like them), the coconut shrimp and crunchy mahi was awesome. The salad was fresh and the bread tasty. Our waiter was kind and we had a wonderful time. I'd give it 5 stars.
p.s. I used to teach cooking classes, and studied food science in college, I know good food!
I now feel so validated! I looked at some of the other reviews. I have had nothing but horrible experiences at this rotten overpriced dump. I happen to have a strong weakness for conch chowder and conch fritters so I keep trying. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one to have had just the worst experiences there. I don't know how they stay in business. Maybe there's just nothing else in Jensen Beach. The wait staff are almost vicious in their nastiness. I can't imagine ever leaving a tip. The chowder keeps me coming back but the crappy attitude and bad treatment makes staying away easier. It is usually years between my visits. I need to find somewhere else to get good conch chowder - it's that simple.
The service at Conchy Joe's is AWFULLLLLL!!!!! The waitresses are rude, one night in particular we went there for dinner my husband ordered a chicken churrasco, since he does not like meat, and the waitress made a mistake and put in a beef churrasco order , when he said something to the waiter that brought it she came back bolting to our table like a demon out of hell and yelled that he did in fact order the meat which was impossible since he doesn't eat meat . Everyone at our table was shocked. It was humiliating and she never apologized the psycho, and expected him to pay for her mistake. They only cater to the rich. Too bad because we love to eat out and give great tips but will never go there again!! The view is nice and so is the entertainment but that is the only good about this restaurant.
Thanks to the staff for ruining my wifes birthday. the demon waittress we got was plain and simple rude. first the food wasn't that great then she had the nerve to count the tip in front of us and complain. as we walked out the door she comfronted us to complain about her tip. look 4 dollar a gallon for gas , your lucky you even got a tip,for just getting us ice tea. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN, and anyone wanting to go you'll recieve better service at McDonalds.
