The menu at Green Springs is carefully conceived, with unusual combinations of food that go together surprisingly well. The services is very good, and usually friendly. I have eaten there three or four times, and 80% of the time the food is excellent. On my last visit, for whatever reason, the quality was down, the chef had substituted a wrong ingredient in a signature dish, because he had run out of the standard (too strong a sausage was used in the shrimp 'n grits). Still, it seemed an off day, and I will return to Green Springs next time I am in the area.
We went to Green Springs Bistro for a friend's birthday dinner. It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time! It was a bit of a splurge, but not outrageously extravagant, and well worth it. Everything that passed my lips was absolutely delicious!
The microbrews we tried were great, and both the red and white sangrias were refreshing and light. The Beneli with artichoke hearts, red onion and smoked ham was an explosion of flavor. The gumbo is made with a dark roux and has a deep, complex flavor. Crab cakes are mostly crab.... yum! Standout entrees we tried were the sesame crusted mahi, and the pecan crusted chicken. The bison burger was tasty, as was the steak our friend ordered with gorgonzola cheese added.
Love the funky little house full of works by local artists. We'll definitely be back to try more menu items, and we hope they're all as delicious as what we had on our first visit!
I made a reservation and had a romantic dinner set for a new girlfriend and even made arrangements with Kris. Unfortunately nothing we discussed was remembered and we waited 45 minutes, the food took another 45 minutes and came out cold and the owner, Kris, was incredibly rude. There are so many great restaurants to choose from these days to make someone's day special. Please save your money, don't take the risk here and love on your Special person where things are dependable and core values, such as Customer Service, Honor and Commitment are held a bit higher than at Green Springs Bistro.
The ambiance in this restored house adds to the charm of the staff and the quality of the food. Even when full of customers, the sound of the live singer on the back porch gently comes through the speakers in each dining area, not over powering, but adding to the background noise. The buffalo burger and crab cake sandwich are our favorites, the service is attentive, friendly and fun. Would highly recommend stopping in for a comfortable lunch!
