I wish I could give them 0 stars. I recently went to breakfast at this establishment and was more than disappointed. I asked the waiter, who was the manager on duty, to repeat the specials since I had a head cold and couldn t hear him, and he literally began to yell the specials at me. Several people dining in the restaurant turned around to see what was happening and I think he was embarrassed so he lowered his voice. He did not smile once and several of the other servers were rude. The food was lackluster. I ordered the Cajun potatoes and they had no spice. They were fried potatoes with cheese. The grits were awful, too. I was out with nine others and they were disappointed with everything but the biscuits and gravy. I will never go back and I advise everyone who wants to eat good food and be treated well to avoid this restaurant.
Saturday Night 12/3/11
I live on 580 and have been to Kelly's for lunch before. This was the first time for my wife. The first thing that was frustrating was the fact that we were told apprx. 30 min and we waited an hour and 15 to get seated. Other people that came behind us who were more impatient than us (always checking to see where they were on the list) got seated before us because it seemed the hostess didn't want to have to deal with them. Once we got seated, we just wanted to get our food and get out so we just ordered 4 appetizers to split between the 2 of us. Scallops, Beef Tips, Fish Spread, and Ahi Tuna. We told the waitress to be informal with us and just bring out the any dish as soon as it gets done. We didn't care if everything came all at once. We watched a father and daughter get seated next to us order their food, get their food, eat their meal, pay for their check and leave before we even got our first appetizer. We waited over and hour and 15 minutes at the table before the fish spread even got to us. The male hostess saw that I was livid and finally asked if my wife and I wanted bread after about an hour. Once our other 3 appetizers got to our table, we were missing the scallops but we got Salmon instead. We tried telling the waitress 3 times that we didn't have the Scallops and that something was wrong, but she insisted that the Salmon was our scallop dish. Finally after having to stand up and walk to get someone else, they switched the dish out. It was the worst dining experience I have had in 15 years. Only as we left I got an apology from the hostess. I am in the event planning business (the biggest rental company on the West Coast of Florida) and I thought I was very patient with everybody but it seemed like no one cared about me there. I know you were busy, a wait is expected, but to see the things going on around me was just ridiculous.
This is a very cool place and the food is really good. Obviously fresh and homemade. My girlfriend and I had a great meal and the atmosphere on the back patio was very relaxing and somewhat retroish. Service could have been faster, but the waiter was professional and polite. We saved room for dessert and went across the street to an old fashion ice cream parlor that was out of this world. Downtown Dunedin is great and I would highly recommend going to Kelly's for dinner when you're there.
I've been to Kelly's several times and most of the meals are quite good.
However, stay away from the steaks. They taste tough(stringy) and kind of burnt on the outside if ordered medium, but bloody in the middle if ordered medium rare . They could also use some seasoning. Stay away.
The prices are reasonable with a larger variety of other foods, and the wait staff is friendly. The atmosphere is laid back and not loud.
I would give them 5 stars if it wasn't for the terrible steaks.
I Love Kelly's! Have eaten here many times. Inside, outside, different times of day. It is always great, lots of fun.I have eaten so many good meals there I don't have a favorite. But I do have a favorite drink.... the Watermelon Martini!Very refreshing
Kelly's has a fun, funky atmosphere and a good variety of menu items. I love their oriental-style salad with chicken. I've had the sea bass twice and the fish was delicious, but the pasta (I believe udon) that it sits atop is awash in a vinegary sauce -- for me, too pungent a contrast to the delicate fish. The real fun of Kelly's is the retro atmosphere. If you're over 40, you will surely see something in the tables, salt shakers, old radios and memorabilia that looks remotely familiar. The waitstaff is friendly and chatty, but sometimes disappears for awhile into the busy outdoor seating area.
