I lived in Dunnellon for 8 months, and I have to say this was my favorite place to go! The cat fish is awesome, the hush puppies, yum! All the food is great and they give you plenty to eat. The staff is wonderful! Yes, maybe the tables are a bit crowded, but that's half the uniqueness! I love Front Porch! That's the first place I want to eat when I visit down there, hands down!
I have been eating here for a long time but once a month at most until my wife started classes at St Leo and my son and I would go there every Wed and or Thursday. He fell in love with the cashier Katie. Kim serves us the most but there are so many very great people there that serve. If anyone from there reads this they will know who I am as my son is sort of a movie star there. Sorry as I am not very good with names.
Now for the food, I read the reviews and one thing I may agree with on the neg side is I wont eat the mashed potatoes there anymore as every time I ate them they tasted bad but Kim tasted them and said they were off. But I do not know if they are fresh or not. As far EVERYTHING else I have eaten there, I have liked it or loved it. I do NOT eat pie, but my wife says it is to die for. I love the fried chicken, Chicken parm, (son gets hot dogs), Pot Roast is out of this world yummy. The meatloaf is good but I had it when I got the mashed potatoes and the mashed were very bad that night so I will have to try it again. The spaghetti and meat sauce is also great. I am well pleased the Italian on food is not like most other places that try to cook this kind of food. The small Greek Salad can feed four people lol, wonder what the normal one looks like. The hamburgers are awesome too.
I can go on and on. This place is a winner and it always packed so the bad comments you may read here, may be true for them but I am not some red neck. I am from Long Island and I am a Dr and I eat out a lot and at some 4 and 5 star places. The food here is great and the people even greater. Please, eat here once and you will be back!
We are new to this area, made a BIG MISTAKE, we ate at the Front Porch in Dunnellon. The tables are jammed together, the FOOD IS OVERPRICED and NOT THAT GOOD. My wife and I had stomach discomfort after the meal and into the night. We took a lot of Peptol.
I will never return and I would advise everyone to steer clear.
I want to write a review I wish I had read prior to trekking out to this restaurant. I enjoy finding good restaurants but seriously, unlike others on here, we did not find this special in a good way or a way in which we would return.
Instant potatoes to me does not a unique restaurant make. The previous day I visited a chain that had real mashed potatoes.
We had a nice waiter but I wouldn't recommend this spot because it was same price as a good chain restaurant but sub-par food. I eat out to have a better dining experience that what I would have at home.
The pears with grated cheddar cheese on them that came with our meals gave us each a sick stomach.
What a great little restaurant! Fast friendly service, good food prepared fresh, phenomenal pies...If you stop in, be sure to take a walk-through to see the hand-painted murals and hand-crafts. Off the beaten path unless you have reason to be in the Dunnellon area, but worth the trip even if it's a little out of your way.
Friendly service, great food, and the pie's are fantastic. all made from scratch each morning. and you get a good size portion for your money. I don't think you will leave without being full. I found this by just driving by and seeing the strawberry pie sign outside, so glad I stoped to eat here, it's worth the drive from Silver Springs.
It is down home country cooking at an affordable price. The service is friendly; the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable too. No frills, just good food and the homemade pie I had for dessert was delish. Over-all, this restaurant is the way southern food should taste.
