This place is GREAT!!!! The staff is friendly and the bartenders out of site. I came to Sarasota on business and this place was recommended on the first night by the hotel staff. I have spent a month in town and have been here every couple of days. The seafood is phenomenal. I live on the west coast and this place’s seafood is hands down 10 times better than any I’ve had (even at fisherman’s Warf SF). Their slogan is No waterfront... No View.... Just GREAT Resort Style Food At Neighborhood Prices! And they live up to it!!!!
If your in Sarasota this is a must visit!!!
At best the food is just OK. Management and some of the staff are ablolutely rude in a way that dares you to not ever come back. This is a regular occurance as I tried this place more than once just to be fair and not rush to judgement. This review is no exageration.
We ate at the North Trail location and enjoyed the special happy hour pricing. Being travelers, we wanted to eat where the locals go and was impressed by the advertising and online reviews. However, the food was mediocre. The hubby's potatoes were of the instant variety and he found the fish to not taste as fresh as expected. Our son found the chicken strips uninspiring. My black bean hummus was blandly seasoned but some thought was given to the presentation.
With regard to the ambiance, the service was friendly and efficient. The decor appeared clean. Average age of consumers was over age 60.
All in all, nothing moved us to recommend Barnacle Bill's to friends or to visit it upon any return to the area. I'd rate our dinner overall as poorly average and disappointing.
Ate at the Barnacle Bill's on University and 41 on 4/19. Was with a large group and everyone enjoyed their meals. The King crab was excellent, as were the mussels. The service was prompt, orderly and professional. Both of the servers were on top of everything we asked for and separated our checks 10 ways. Everything was correct and it was done quickly. Our party was separated into two large groups, adults and children, and the restaurant accomodated us in a large back room area. All in all, a good experience and we will be going back next time we are in town!!
Having spent 35 years on the road and having numerous hotels give me BAD recommendations..this one was an instant hit for this road weary traveler. Had my wife with me and she was thrilled to have a true, sitdown, non-frozen seafood meal. Great bartender/waiter and great food..no dislikes on our plates tonight!
We have been all over the country let alone overseas - this is a great place to get either seafood or any other food. The prices are very reasonable, the service is most pleasant and the quality of the food is perfect. Our first time there we ordered appetizers & after eating them wondered why we had ordered dinner.
Only been to the original location downtown on Main Street - I/we can only suggest trying them and having a great meal.
My girlfriend and I brought two friends of ours to this restaurant because the food was very good during our last dining experience. We got there at about 8:30 and while the waitress was taking our order a cockroach fell from an air vent to our table and management came by and took it away. I realize this is Florida but neither of us made a scene about it because there were people dining around us. What frustrated me was that the management didn't apologize for the incident. About 30 minutes later another cockroach was crawling on the wall beside our table. The manager of the restaurant grabbed it with a napkin without even apologizing afterwards. The waitress came to us and apologized and offered us dessert for compensation when our meals already came with dessert. We then asked her to speak to the manager who didn't even apologize after he came out. The manager had horrible attitude towards us and we were trying to be as nice as possible. He then offered us a complimentary glass of wine only after we suggested some sort of compensation. My entire party was frustrated at this time and we all lost our appetites in part due to the attitude of the manager. He told us we could leave if we felt uncomfortable. By this time it is about 9:30 and most restaurants aren't serving anymore. He left leaving us in a very awkward situation so after no response from the waitress or management for about ten minutes we got up and left letting the manager know how disappointed we were and still no apology. Based on the cleanliness and service I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
