Ophelia's on the Bay
Ophelia's on the Bay is one of Sarasota's premier fine dining waterfront restaurants. Enjoy beautiful vistas of Little Sarasota Bay, from the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the dining room. Or join us for al fresco dining on our open-air patio, as the dolphins and manatee swim by. Winner of many awards both locally and nationally, including an Excellence rating from Zagat as well as being listed as the number one restaurant in America in Power and Motoryacht Magazine for dock and dine. Ophelia's on the Bay has also been voted most romantic, best waterfront and best restaurant with a view by its loyal customers. The menu changes nightly using fresh and seasonal ingredients, fresh fish flown in from all over the world and specialty meats. There is certainly something for every palate! We feature an extensive wine list, specialty martinis, as well as a full bar. Family owned and operated for over 22 years, we have an experienced staff that prides itself on exemplary service.
Horrible experience!!!! Bridse & Grooms: this is YOUR SPECIAL day. Please do not ruin it by allowing Ophelia's to host your reception.Ophelia's had my (the bride) name spelled wrong on my menu for the reception. Stan (the owner) and I had spoken often, via email as well as over the phone so there was no reason for my name to have been misspelled. The spelling of my name was not just off by a couple of errors but my entire name, from the beginning to end was incorrect. It saddened me that Ophelia's did not care enough about their service to double check and refer back to emails, etc for the proper spelling of my name. When I brought the error to the owners attention; his response was very rude and even went as far as blaming me for the mistake he and his staff made. Not to mention- the night before my wedding reception, my family and I wanted to view our setup for the reception and the owners brother was very rude and raised his voice at my family and I- stating that he didn't have time to deal with us and that we needed to not bother him during his busy hour!! Again, Brides & Grooms; this is YOUR SPECIAL day. Please do not ruin it by allowing Ophelia's to host your reception.
We came on a very busy saturday night, just after sunset, and requested a table outside. They quickly accomodated us, checking in with us every few minutes to tell us that our table was almost ready. We felt lucky to get such a prime table without a reservation. Very professional staff, and definitely the most romantic restaurant in Sarasota. Even though we placed a very small order, we were given top-notch service. Delicious, too. I only wish they were open later. The sun doesn't set until 8:30, and they basically close at 9pm.
Dinner was an absolute delight. The service started out a little slow only because we had an early reservation and our server didn't know we were there. After that ( and the free drink for inconvenience) things went perfectly. Brian and Aaron took exceptional care of us. The Jumbo Lump Blue Crab was 100% lump crab meat served with a dijon aioli that did not overpower the sweet meat. The buffalo mozzarella and vine ripe tomatoes were served with sprouts. the tomatoes wer very fresh and perfectly ripe. The ARctic Char was a lip smacker. Cooked perfectly. The accompanying sweet corn rizotto was a real treat and the shellfish reduction with crab meat made the dish outstanding. The Grouper had a very very light coating of cocoanujt and macadamia panko which enhanced rather than overpowered the perfectly cooked fish. And the habernero potatoes, a first for us, were surprisingly mild and very different. Entrees are $30-$36 and well worth it. Dining out on the deck overlooking the bay made the evening one to remember.
