New to the Bradenton area and a bbq lover, I can say the pork bbq sandwich at mr bones was fair to ok. Not slow cooked and tender. It was sliced, dry and kind of hard. Like oven cooked, well done the floating in sauce. The sauce was good, just soaking the meat. The sub bun was dried out on one end. Definitely not worth the $7.99, more like $5.00.. I've been all over the country and have tasted and cooked some of the best bbq and this was about a 4 on a scale 1 to 10..The sauce was too good to put on this quality of meat..
Mr. Bones, low heat and slow cooking your meat is the trick to tender meat, not fast...
I LOVE MR. BONES!!!! I have been a Bones fanatic for 7 years now, since I moved to Florida. I send the sauces to all of my chef friends all over the US. The dry rub -- that's the secret, I think! I have been a vegetarian for 2 years now, and the General Moe's watercress is my new favorite dish. The salads are HUGE, and the sides are to die for...When I was still eating meat, the baby backs with original sauce were my favorite. As a beer lover, I love the coffin, too. The whole vibe is unique and friendly. It can get busy during season (winter), but it's definitely worth the wait. Or try it for lunch, too (less crowded).
Mr. Bones BBQ is probably the best BBQ in FL. A full menu filled with surprises of Indian and Chinese influence is a wonderful addition to an already fantastic BBQ place.
Mr. Bones has a unique atmosphere. From the second you step in the door you're asked if you would like a cold beer on your way to the table. Every thing on the menu is fantastic.
I really suggest this restaurant. The food is fantastic and this is one of the main attractions on my family trips to Longboat Key. Everyone looks forward to there amazing baby back ribs. Definitely worth going to check out.
When we arrived we were told it was about a 45 minute wait. 1 1/2 hours later we were finally seated. Then 45 minutes later we actually were served our food. The ribs were dry, the kids meals were horrible. (A grilled cheese consists of 1/2 of a stale bun with some cheese melted in the microwave on it.... certianly not grilled.) The kids meals were suppose to include ice cream but of course they ran out and didn't have any. It's a very small place so if there is a wait, it's going to be a looonng wait.
There really is no place like it. Drinks right from a coffin. I like to get the ribs and pulled pork The ribs and barbeque. Great tasting. We go to Lido Key every year for 7 - 10 days and we always eat at least once at Mr Bones.
