The Boat House
The only \"over the water\" restaurant in Naples, this restaurant features a 1,000 square foot wall of glass which faces the Bay and allows diners to enjoy seeing the passing boats. An excellent menu of seafood specialties is served daily for lunch and dinner in a casual waterfront atmosphere.
On December 30th I decided to take my husband to The Boathouse for a late birthday dinner. He had told me over and over what a great place it was and how excellent the food and I wanted to treat him. We arrived and the establishment was very busy; we had to wait twenty to thirty minutes to be seated. Being in the hospitality industry in Naples and Ft Myers Beach we both understood this and waited. During our wait my husband went back inside to get us something to drink to hold us over until the table was ready. Once we were seated we were handed menus and never saw a server again. We sat at our table for almost forty-five minutes and didn't even get a drink order; my husband had to go back inside and get another round of drinks for us. We found the manager just before leaving, still without having eaten, and informed her of the situation. She went to get us a business card so we could call back. My husband and I were approached by another individual that worked there who had a card in her hand. After speaking very civilly with one another, my husband was very friendly about it, we left without getting the business card the young woman was holding very tightly in her hand. I have eaten at five star restaurants and fast food establishments; I have never received the level of service that I received at The Boat House. NONE! The food may be excellent but my first impression of The Boat House has forever tainted me to them. I refuse to return to a place of business where guest and customer service are obviously overlooked in such a manner. I work in a profession where guest service is mandatory and I completely understood the establishment in question was very busy that night but to not have anyone at least come by to offer us drinks was very ridiculous. I will not be returning!
got there late on a friday night, so we were seated at the bar. had to wait several times - at the door, at the bar and for our food. salad was poor, clam chowder was watery, and portion of tuna was small. the staff were arguing with each other within earshot and several of them were sitting around the bar with us, drinking. i was served my soup and salad with the soup sitting on top of the salad. i'm sure the view was spectacular, though. i wish it was still the charthouse.
Service was terrible. Started out with waiting for the wine we ordered. The wine was brought out with 4 wet wine glasses. Waited for ever for our food. One of the dinners had to be sent back and cooked over. We will not go back.
We have gone to the Boat House many times. Until the last visit which may be the last it was good.
The soup was served in bowls with soup running down the sides of the bowls, the rolls were hard, the salads wilted, the pork tenderloin was dry and overdone, and the service marginal. We had to ask multiple times for water and coffee. The staff was extremely noisy. For the price the dinner was not too good.
In spite of the marginal food and service the view of the bay is fantastic.
