Green Flash Bayside Bar & Grill
The green flash on Captiva Island is a phenomenon that happens when the sun sinks into the ocean. At the Green Flash Bayside Bar & Grill, every table has a great view across Pine Island Sound, with the length of the building along the water and the tables placed on risers like an auditorium. Try a famous Timmy's Nook burger for lunch, and seafood or steaks for dinner. The bar seats 150. Reservations are accepted. A full bar is available; the margaritas are highly recommended.
This restaraunt was excellent i just visited it 12/13/11 and the view was so worth the price! It was so beautiful i even saw some dolphins. My husband really liked the food he had a very fresh seafood dish. We also had a quiet dinner there was an adequate amount of people there but service was still fast. My watress was a real sweetheart.
Second time here - very disappointing. The place is a bit shabby although it is nice viewing the bay. Waitress had somewhat of an attitude of us being the ritzy tourists, her the poor worker; she forgot to bring my husband's appetizer but we were probably charged for it. The entrees were so-so - one was their special - Angel Hair Pasta with shrimp and lobster. The shrimps were the baby ones (micro small) and the lobster was just flecks of lobster, not even small chunks. Also, the timing of bringing the food was off - we were not even finished with our salads when our entres were placed on the table. Very poor experience. Restaurant owners should send anonymous people to their restaurants to check on these kind of things. Will not return here - too many other choices in Sanibel and Captiva,
We had cocktails and dinner at the Green Flash and were most impressed. The drinks were great, our server was attentive and friendly, food was very good and the view was lovely. Even very casual eateries on Captiva are very expensive (think $23 plus for an entree) and Green Flash is no exception but it is far from the casual, rather dirty, cafes that charge the same amounts; the restaurant is tastefully decorated and could be described as somewhat casual fine dining - cloth tablecloths, nicely rolled silver.
We would, and will, return there for the food, service and ambiance.
The best food i ve ever had.The fish special salmon in a puff pastry is awesome. My friend had a cup of shrimp bisque (delice) and the best veggie sandwich ever! They served us cappuchino and cream brulee .We loved everything : the atmosphere, the view, the prices and the food. The best restaurant on Captiva.
Other Captiva visitors had said that they looked up the Green Flash and read only two reviews, both bad, but we decided to give it a try. Thank goodness we did! I went to the Green Flash with 8 people who all are picky eaters in different ways. Every one of us loved our food. The BBQ shrimp with bacon, Steam Pot (great value, lots of seafood), the specials (pesto angel hair pasta and grilled shrimp), drinks (esp. the mango frozen drink), and desserts (I think we tried all of them) were wonderful. Service was great too, although it's not the place to go if you are in a hurry. Our waitress gave honest opinons of the food and made great recomendations. By the way if you look up reviews for the Green Flash on any other site you will find tons of great reviews for the restuarant.
not only was our food cold, but so was our server! the veggies cold, my husband's bisque cold along with his escargo; and my cosmo was not! go figure!! I nicely requested to the server that it be taken back and shaken again and served colder, she offered to give me ice cubes - ice in a cosmo? with grey goose vodka? no thank you and she never smiled or showed her customers that she was happy to serve you
what I ordered had no flavor; the child in our party ordered the pasta marinara which looked like nothing more than 1 stewed tomato placed on to of linguini. Needless to say, there are many other quaint restaurants with a view that I would rather dine at
I visited the Green Flash for lunch on March 13, 2007. We had walked to the restaurant via the beach, from Tween Waters Marina to the South.
The host was quick to seat us, and even told us the reason he let a group of 5 go ahead is because he had a table for 2 coming up.
The entire dining room had a great easterly view over the vast Pine Island Sound, Buck Key, and Roosevelt Channel. Even from the second terrace, we were able to watch the boats docking.
The server was quick to point out a vegetarian option for us: avacados, spinach, etc. and 2 cheeses on grilled panini bread. We ordered a Mango Tango, a frozen drink with kahlua among other things, that was absolutely perfect. Our water and iced tea was never less than 1/3 full.
Being two 20-somethings on a sailing vacation, you'd anticipate getting ripped off, especially in a tourist-oriented town such as Captiva. But the menu prices were less than most waterfront restaurants we visited, the portions were fair, and we were treated with respect, as though they wanted us to return.
Before you let your server tell you about the specials ask this question....IS THERE A BIG PARTY UPSTAIRS? We were seated @ 6:40 thinking we had plenty of time to eat and get to the beach for the sunset........how wrong we were....a party of 50 was being served upstairs and the kitchen is in no way capable of handling that many plus regular diners....our server apologized several times then disappeared as we were very obviously unhapppy....were finally served @ 7:50.....missing our last chance to see a sunset on Captiva........Also watch this place when you are comparing prices.......this place charges you $4 for a dinky house salad in addition you your entree....There are plenty of restaurants on Sanibel/ Captiva to bypass this place during your week..........you won't miss a thing
