Island Way Grill
This restaurant offers a beautiful view of the Mandalay Bay area. Tables are laid out in the open-air section that overlook the scenic bay. Island Way Grill has two bars, one for sushi and another with an impressive list of wines. Guests can enjoy the sunset while sipping away at the bars. The cuisine is Pacific Rim and Continental and the Blue Crab encrusted with macadamia nuts is the house specialty. The prices are high, but it's good-value-for-money.
I visited with my son for Sunday brunch. We sat outside at a lovely, spacious table overlooking the water. Service was good, despite the fact that they had a wedding function in the room next door. Buffet food was fresh and tasty with a divine crab salad. Desserts were a bit overblown though and didn't taste as good as they looked. Great place, very relaxing.
Went there for the first time today and it will be my last.
First of all, it's important to note that I'm very forgiving when I go out to eat. I understand the mechanics of how restaurants run and that there are a large degree of factors that can turn an experience sour rather easily. In other words, things happen and I rarely if ever let it ruin my meal. Overcooked? That's ok, please recook. Wait a little longer to be seated after a reservation? I understand, not a biggy. It's cool...really. The only things that may rub me the wrong way are when the fundamentals are off: Poor food, unclean establishment or poor service. That’s inexcusable.
We had a reservation, and were seated promptly which I appreciated. The view was wonderful, the service was fine, the aesthetics of were also very nice. The big problem? The food was sub par (and that’s me being generous.)
Peel and eat shrimp were good, yet many were not deveined. Egg Benedict were cold (one bite and pushed aside.) The sausage was also cold, and was of poor quality. Potatoes, how difficult is it to screw this up? Bland and cold as well. Spicy tuna sushi was decent, but the crab rolls were the krab with a “K” and I didn’t bother. Even the dessert was a letdown: Bananas in Bananas Foster had a strange taste to them. The cookies weren’t even good (one bite and that was enough.) I just couldn’t believe how poor the quality was here. The roast beef was decent, but again nothing special. The vanilla bean ice cream was nice however, as were the shot glasses with the peanut butter mouse and key lime pie.
Overall the food was just dismal. 60 dollars isn’t really that much, but it’s a hell of a lot for a meal this bad. I can’t think of a time when I ever left a brunch not full, this may have been the first time. I pushed away nearly everything I ate. Maybe it was an off day as this place seems to get many decent reviews. Although from my experience today I wouldn’t go back if the food was offered to me at half price. There are so many other great places I can go and get a superior meal for the same price.
Last night we had dinner at Island Way Grille with 12 people. It was loud, the waiter was awful, and several of us had to either return the food back to the kitchen. I had the shrimp and scallops. Both were so over cooked! Awful is the only way to describe our meal. None of us will be back!
Very good food, with very good service. Reservation time was honored exactly (on Valentines day).
YELLING across the table is the ONLY way to communicate with your dinner partner though.
Ambiance = ZERO !!
NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!
Not recommended:..... unless you LOVE NOISE!
We were there for dinner with a party of 15 (made reservations ahead a time). Two waiters were helping with our order, but to no avail. They brought five wrong entrees. The red wine (Merlot) was way too warm, as if it was kept on a bar shelf in direct sun - the only way to drink it was by adding a couple of ice cubes. Our table for 15 was too small, and mid-dinner the waiters added another table to make more room for us. We were sitting in direct sun - no patio umbrellas available, or offered.
We heard so many great testimonials about this restaurant and were looking forward to our first dining experience there, but after this one, I don't believe we will be coming back. It is simply not worth the drive or the wait.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but my two experiences at Island Way Grill were less than adaquate. The service was one of the slowest I have ever seen...BOTH times. Waiting for 20 minutes for a soda refill for my 8 yr old is inexcusable. The food wasn't bad, but it was far from excellent. We gave it two tries, and won't go back. Sorry, but I don't recommend it.
had heard alot of good things about this restuarant so we tried it, we were waiting an hour at the bar for a table and they seemed to seat the regulars quiet quickly at first we were going to leave but thought if theres this many people here it must be nice! my husband ordered a tuna dish for a starter and it came out raw how anyone could eat tuna steak raw is beyond me he asked the waiter to get it cooked and was told thats the way it comes raw! i got prawns with heads and eyeballs how attractive! when you order king prawns you dont expect heads unless stated on the menu i didnt eat them as im irish and i wouldnt know the first thing about how to. maybe they should give instruction manuals with there dishes!!! the starters were taken away not touched of course and the main meals came out fish and yes you guessed it heads tails the lot! desert no thanks we went to crabby bills and got take away i highly recommend crabby bills so friendly and helpful and show you how to eat crab legs. so dont waste your money in the island way grill because its full of la di da wana be somebody idiots who pretend they like raw food and fish heads save your money your in clearwater if you want raw fish heads and tails the ocean youll get them for free.
