Friendly, helpful waitress. Food was interesting.
I went with my wife. We ordered the Black Forest Ham and Asparagus Rolls appetizer and the Herring Snack appetizer. Both were good, interesting, and I couldn't complain about any of it.
I ordered a special order beer not normally on the menu. Very good. $4.50 for an imported beer at 500ml (1 pint .09oz.). Wish I had another. My wife had the German Sangria. She said it was good. Not like other Sangrias though.
I had Rouladen. It was very tender. Tasty. Pretty good. I'd go with that again. My wife had Sauerbraten. It was pretty good.
As the sides, I had Cucumber Slaw and the Marinated Green Bean Salad. The Cucumber Slaw was a bit tasteless. The green beans weren't bad. My wife had the Spaetzle and the Red Cabbage. The Spaetzle was somewhat boring. The red cabbage was good enough to order again.
For desert, I had the Gnoche. That was a winner. I'll definitely order that again. My wife had the Black Forest Cake. It was good.
Service was great when there was just 3 or 4 tables full. But after 30 minutes or so, all 9 tables filled up and service took a different turn. Still very friendly and helpful, but not as attentive. Had to ask for water. Never got asked for another beer.
So, total was just over $72 for the two of us, not including tip.
We came out of there stinking like old kitchen grease. It clung to our clothes. Next morning our clothes still stank.
Reservations are necessary we've found out. Made the mistake of stopping by during Oktoberfest and we found out we needed to call ahead. Plus, it seems this place is only open 4 days a week, 9 months a year. And they take a generous holiday for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Good for them. They have their priorities already defined. But if you don't know this, you'll be in for a surprise. This place is kind of hidden due to lack of signage. You'll need a passenger looking out or you'll drive right by the place.
So, food was good to very good. Service started out well, but fizzled. A bit pricey. If I could go back just for deserts and/or beer I probably would.
Food critics rave for its sophisticated chef and award winning wines. Opened as a spritzier version of St. Petersburg favorite
