El Tenampa Mexican Restaurant, St Petersburg

A good mexican food joint. The outside looks ghetto as He L L, but don't let that fool you. The usual fare of Mexican foods on the menu. (they also serve American type food but why go to a mexican place to eat burgers? My wife and I went and decided to share our meals so that we could get an idea of what both tasted like. The chips (served with home made salsa that was fantastic) were made hot and fresh on site. (not bagged chips) can't say enough about how good the chips and salsa were.My wife got a chicken Burrito covered in a red sauce and cheese. served with bean and rice. I had chicken fahitas with corn tortillas (also served with beans and rice) The portions were huge and very filling. The chicken in the Burrito was juicey and delish. It was a little on the bland side but a few drops of some hot sauce made it Perfect. The Fahittas were great and the sliced red and orange pepper/ with onions mixed in were fresh and tasty again it was a little on the bland side but a dash of the green hot pepper sauce fixed that perfect. If you're looking for a place to eat while dressed in a tux and tie ... go elsewhere. they spend more time on the food then they do on the decor. However if I want fine decor, I'd just stay home. I went for food. service was good and my glass was always full. food arrived on my table pretty quick. Bottom line : A great tasting meal for $18.00 for two people. I'll be back for more.

Absolutely no flavor.I ordered the two soft beef tacos platter which comes with re-fried beans and rice,none of which had any flavor.The beans were an odd pale color, rice was ok at best again no seasoning or flavor to either.The salsa taste more like spaghetti sauce. Friend ordered the the spinach burritos again same complaint no flavor. Our waistress although pleasant seemed as if she would have rather been someplace else.

10/06/2010 The Food Portions were large, The taste was rather bland for my dinner and my G/F's I had a Burrito and she had the combo plate there were NO spices to give it taste at all, the Salsa was good but still not a lot of flavor of anything, reminds me of Red Lobster nice presentation but lacking in flavor. Service was good but not Great.
