These are simple, well made, tasty burgers! Jucy, hot and good!
If you bring the family and don't like a bar atmosphere, sit outside... This is, after all a bar and it can be a bit loud and smelly because of this, but the food is so worth the trip, you wont mind anyway!
It is almost ALWAYS packed at dinner and lunchtime and can be hard to get a seat and the wait is a bit long sometimes on those days but as I said... It's worth any problem that you could imagine where anywhere else it might deter you from coming back... Here, it wont.
The food is that good!
The great burgers came highly recommended by friends and long time St Petersburg residents alike. Plenty of local color. El Cap is an institution with an atmosphere that celebrates the history of old time baseball. You can't go wrong with this one!
Well, when I'm not in China I always stop at El Cap. The place is an institution, great Burgers!
The complainers that want free refills should go to McDonalds and get one of those ground McCowhides, they’ll give you refills to wash it down.

The Gold Medal winner is the El Cap...... peters is OK , but at best takes home only a silver...
Having eaten at El Cap since my dad would sit me on his lap (40+ years) and now eaten burgers around the States, I have to say that El Cap tastes like home to me. The taste you can't get anywhere else. Try one with grilled onions. Chili is great too. Wash it down with nice pitcher of cold beer. I'm booking my flight home now. Also...one other burger to try is the one on Cabbage Key down in Pine Island Sound near Capitva and Boca Grande. A cheese burger in paradise.
But I recommend El Cap fans try Ted Peter's Smokehouse on Pasadena Ave - the burgers are similar, but less greasy. Strange sides, though, like potato salad and cole slaw. El Cap does have a great atmosphere, though. And the cook is great, possibly the friendliest man I've ever not quite met.
