Joto Japanese Restaurant, Tampa

This place is pretty good if you enjoy Japanese food. The staff and service is very very friendly. We have had the edamame before as an app and it was delicious. The chicken teriyaki is awesome with just enough kick to it. Calzones are also great and fresh tasting in your mouth. We tried the quail eggs, and man are they good! They also have yakitori which is very nice. I can't give it 5 stars because it could be a little cleaner inside, but other than that it is awesome!

Although we were seated promptly and the staff was super friendly the food wasn't good at all. We ordered the edamame as an appetizer, which came out under cooked and at the same time as our soup and ginger salad. We had barely made a dent in our edamame, let aone the soup and salad and our entrees came out. So there they sat, slowly getting cold while we were still trying to finish our starters. The ginger dressing wasn't that great. I had the shrimp tempura and my husband had the ginger beef. My tempura was bland and the sauce that came with it was a glorified soy sauce that left an extremely weird after taste. My husband's ginger beef was dry despite being in all that sauce. It was just really disappointing. We don't get to enjoy date nights out very often, so we wanted to get out and enjoy ourselves, instead we were rushed through dinner and in and out of the restaurant in less than 40 minutes... which makes me wonder how long my food had been sitting in the back, already prepared, just waiting for the unlucky individual to order it, instead of being freshly prepared. I will never go back, nor will I ever recommend it to someone. Hey, maybe the sushi is good there? I'll never know.

Being that most sushi places in Tampa are not Japanese, I was reluctant to try JoTo, which had been recommended by a couple of people, but as soon as I took my first mouth watering bite of magoro sashimi, the explosion of pure joy running through my taste buds assured me that JoTo is THE best place in Tampa for quality cuts of sashimi and excellent nigiri with amazing sushi rice. Don't be fooled by the Cafe Japon or Blue Samurai bells and whistle style sushi joints. Jo-To had excellent food, service and the yaki tori and hijiki were to die for. Besides Kaisen Sushi in Carrollwood, if you're looking for something authentic, stop in JoTo.

Great Japanese food! I go there atleast once a week. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean, and the service is good and friendly.

I go there once a week at least since moving here, either lunch or after work. Only once for dinner. I wish the menu had a bit more choices for the rolls. It's in a good spot for me and it's busy but I've never had a wait. It doesn't smell and the amount of food for the price is a good value to me.

Overall, very solid performance for service, fresh sushi, and atmosphere. Would probably give it a 4.5 star rating if that was possible. Location and parking are the only things that could be better, but otherwise great in everything.

I absolutely LOVE Joto's! I'm a regular there and whenever I have visitors, I always take them to Joto's. All my friends love it there as well. The service is great and fairly priced. The appetizers on the menu are excellent. I'm not too fond of the dinner items since they do not taste authentic, but I can see Americans liking it.

This is definitely the place to go for sushi. My boyfriend and I always eat sushi when we're together (he's in Tampa, FL and I'm in North MS). Of all the places we have eaten sushi Jo To tops them all. We've even eaten at one in Denver which is counted as one of the top 10 in the Country, but Jo To just has something more. Absolutely cannot be beat!! The atmosphere is great, it has a great Japanese feel!!
