Along with excellent food and exemplary service, the quiet atmosphere and subtle elegance of this fine restaurant will add to your dining pleasure. At this restaurant, perched on stilts and overlooking Tampa Bay, you can savor the sight of spectacular sunsets and panoramic views while being entertained by a variety of marine life. was great.....now horrible...twice in a row!!! First of the last two visits I ordered a filet med. rare which came like shoe leather....simply a piece of cheap meat from a grocery store! They had no potatoes and the next visit they had potatoes. obviously the same ones they weren't going to serve us on the first visit but decided to anyway. They were old, barely warm and over cooked. I of course, having had their lousy steak on the fist of my last two visits, I ordered The so called grouper....I have had grouper hundreds of times and if that was grouper, the chef has managed to destroy it beyond recognition to the taste buds. After myself and a friend cleared our table of the appetizer plates, because the waiter didn't, and not because he was busy with the one other table taken in the place, We could only talk about how the place was sinking into the waters it stood on. My guess is different management. They prices are somewhat cheaper than in the past but the quality is garbage!!!!!
I have lived in Tampa Bay for over 24 years and I had never been to the Rusty Pelican. I dined here last night with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. We arrived early and were seated promptly to a table overlooking the ocean. We were given bread with butter and pesto; yum. I ordered the mean tai cocktail ($8) which was delicious and very strong. For my meal I ordered the chef's special filet mignon with the peppercorns and brandy cream sauce ($28). Delicious. My friend ordered the gorgonzola strip steak for the same price and it was delicious as well. The steaks come with a side; which was nice considering I am used to ordering $40 steaks just by themselves and adding a side for another $12. We both had the cream cheese and chive mashed pototoes, which were very good as well. For dessert I tried the tiramisu; which was light and heavenly. Our server was great and attentive. The restaurant itself is dark and romantic. The only compliant I have is the attire. For such a nice restaurant, it is disappointing to see people in jeans and capris. I wish the restaurant would enforce the dress code. In any event; wonderful experience and great prices. I cannot wait to go back!!
Beautiful location and the staff, especially Don at the Rusty Pelican will hold your hand thru all the details. Best choice for customer service , the view and attention to details. We have worked at the property for years and their standards of excellence have always been consistent.
I went for the first time as a chaperone for a formal high school prom-ish dance event. I had a pasta dish and my wife had the chicken, both of which were definately above average. The highlight of the evening was the location, right on the water with a spectacular evening view of Tampa Bay's waterline. For romance with great food, this is the place.
This is one of only a handful of restaurants in the Tampa Bay area that can offer both an elegant waterfront view and a meal that is well worth the price. Our meals wonderful aroma and taste, matched its sophisticated presentation. As with most restaurants, the main floor can be a little loud for an amorous encounter. So when you make reservations, remember to ask for a booth (they are quieter) about an hour before sunset.
The water view...
The excellent service...
The great wine selection (and the number of selections we made)...
Oh Yeah and the food. My most romantic evening since moving to Tampa. Thank you Rusty Pelican you saved my marriage (at least for this weekend)!
First time to this restaurant, which turned out to be a very pleasant experience. The grilled grouper was wonderfully seasoned, very fresh. The tiramasu was to die for. Excellent desserts. Our table overlooking the water was delightful. Very nice overall ambiance. Would definitely return for another wonderful meal!
