Big John's Alabama Barbecue
Any barbecue fan will tell you: it's all in the sauce. Find out for yourself with a pork or beef sandwich made with tender, succulent meat that's been cooking slowly over the pit at this restaurant. Order sliced or chopped, then layered on a fresh bun and topped with savory barbecue sauce. Or order up a plateful of juicy, meaty ribs slathered in sauce and dripping with rich, smoky flavor. Add a side dish of baked beans simmering in a thick sweet sauce or crisp coleslaw.
hey i agree the food is wonderful, but where did they move to?! I went there today 4/8/09 and the place is a piles of bricks I tryed the number and just rings. Oh where Oh where has my Big Johns gone, Oh where Oh where can you be!!
Best bbq in the Tampa Bay area and I've tried quite a few. Every meat has that great smoke taste. The brown sugar and molasses taste of the baked beans makes them tops. Sauces are homemade and dilectible. The prices are very low, running about $2 - $4 less than the same meal you'd get elsewhere. I wish they had baby back ribs, but the ones they do have are above average. Guess I'll have to keep go to Woody's for the baby back ribs. Woody's has the best baby back ribs going hands down.
Absolutely delicious. We flew from Montreal to Tampa on December and we head there the next day.
We had porc in bit piece, beans and patoto bread. It was absolutely divine. We were supposed to take it to go but we ended up eating it right there on the spot and order a second round. Best barbecue I have ever eaten.Highly highly recommended. Clean restaurant, you can see the meat on the grill
So they must be doing something right.
I haven't been there in a while, as I'm not a carnivore lately, but used to go with my ex husband often.
It's the best BBQ I've had at any place in Tampa.
In addition to the awesome BBQ sandwiches, it had a real down-home Southern atmosphere. Staff not always seeming polite was part of the charm!
I think Big John's food is terrible. The ribs have no flavor and I hated the sauce. The baked beans are just like canned Bush Baked beans (best part of the meal). Over all I was extremely let-down after reading the rave reviews. So far since being in Tampa, the best ribs I've found came from the guy who BBQ's in the parking lot of WayLee market.
