My husband and I went for dinner at the New Tampa location on last Friday night and while the parking lot was packed most of the people were obviously elsewhere, and I soon discovered the reasons. We have been to this location at least 25 times since it opened, and probably far more than that. The food was always decent and the atmosphere was perfect for a languid dinner. This time, shortly after our watery martinis arrived, a car drove by and launched two water balloons onto the patio. That was not the management/staff’s fault, but how they reacted, or more specifically, how they sat there for several minutes before getting up from their seats at the hookah bar is their fault. The gentleman who was directly struck by the water balloon was completely ignored for several minutes and not even a token offer of a complimentary coffee or drink was even offered.
Dinner arrives shortly thereafter. I ordered a grouper entrée. In the first bite I had a bone. In the second bite I had a bone. My fourth bite had a bone. My sixth and final bite had a bone. I sat with my barely touched plate of food until the waitress came to clear my husband’s empty plate away. I pointed out the bones, all lined up on the edge of my plate to the waitress who apologized profusely and went to tell her manager. She returned a few minutes later and leaned over to inspect my plate of food saying the manager told her she must have served the mahi instead, since “the grouper doesn’t have any bones”. Apparently Acropolis is able to locate those floppy, no pesky vertebrae species of grouper. She then looked at me and agreed that it was indeed grouper, and that was definitely a lineup of bones on my plate. She apologized again and cleared the plate. The manager never even had the courtesy to even come to our table to apologize, let alone to offer me another entree or take 90% uneaten entree off our bill.
It's no matter though in the end as the Acropolis is completely off my list…and based on the number of patrons dining there on a Friday night, it is off a lot of other people’s lists as well. Good riddance.
I would not recommend the one in Riverview. Had reservations for 7:30 and did not get seated until 8:45 and that was after having to go up and ask about our table several times. If you don't honor reservations then don't say you take them. Sat at the table for 15 minutes before a waitress even bothered to come. We had to get our own menus from another table. And then she took a drink order for half of the table and never came back. The manager basically blew us off and said sorry they were just busy. Unbelievable. We got up and left without eating and headed over to Green Iguana. This place will never make it. On top of that $10 for a glass of chardonnay that was awful. If you're just interested in watching the waiters/waitresses dance around with a bag of napkins throwing them at you, this place is for you but if you want to eat. . . don't bother.
Wow!!!!!!!! I was really impressed with this restaurant. I was first introduced to Greek food when I was in college and there was a restaurant that served Gyros. It was very authentic and delicious. But this meal was absolutely fantastic. We ordered an octopus appetizer that was cooked to perfection. The Gyro was fabulous and the meat was seasoned perfectly and served with homemade tziki. We also ordered a salad that had essentially the makings of a gyro on it and also a greek chicken salad. The chicken breast was breaded perfectly and fried, but not greasy at all. All of the vegetables were crisp and perfect. The salad dressing was light and delicious. Each bite made our taste buds pop with pleasure. The serving sizes were huge. We really did not need the appetizer, but we got the leftovers in a to go container and had them for dinner.
We also ordered baklava to go which was the best I have ever had.
If there is one complaint I would say that we ordered one glass of chardonnay for which the restaurant charged $10.00. That, we felt was excessive, but the prices of the food dishes were fair and we would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant.
If you love greek or even if you don't you have to eat here. The food is garunteed to please. Throw in some belly dancing, smashing glasses on the floor, and throwing napkins and there is a party going on most weekend evenings. I can't say enough about how good the food is!!!
