Snellgrove's Restaurant was born nearly 50 years ago, when Norman R. Snellgrove and his wife, Kathern, purchased the downtown Plant City restaurant formerly known as Hagan's in the late 1960's. Several years later, the restaurant burned down and was rebuilt. In those days, the restaurant was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snellgrove's was a popular place for breakfast and served many local folks including a group of phosphate miners for whom a table was reserved for lunch each day. The restaurant was known for its special of the day which often included a customer favorite of tips and rice and the summer chicken special consisting of chicken, mashed potatoes and tea for a mere $1.99. Norman's love of deep sea fishing was evident in the decor as fish were hung on the walls. Snellgrove's also boasted of the first salad bar in Plant City.
We have been coming to Snellgroves since, well I was born! 27 years later and I STILL love this place. Servers are the nicest around and ask about your family when they aren't there. I never fail to order the Roast beef with mashed potatos and often black eye peas. Roll and salad bar included. Cups are the largest you have ever seen in a diner!
My hubby orders various things like country fried chicken or turkey and dressing. Never fails to please! HINT ** If you are not a salad lover, ask for another side instead of the bar **
Cleanliness is a major point with me, and this place is spotless. Great overall restraunt.
I Don't know where the bad reviews came from unless it is a competitor of Snell groves,That can't compete with there good food and hospitality. But I just had Breakfast there this morning with two of my friends. And we had not one complaint. The waitress was a sweetheart that gave us plenty of attention, by keeping our coffee cups filled and making sure we were alright at all times she could possibly do so. she was prompt getting to us to ask if we were ready to order and never kept us waiting. The other customer's were friendly as I had a conversation with a couple as soon as I walked in the door. Good old southern hospitality ! The food was excellent. the servings were plenty. and you could not beat the price's. I have a motorcycle group in New port Richey , fl. And we are base about 45 miles from there. I would not hesitate to take them there at anytime. And believe me, if you take them to a place to eat and the food isn't good . you will never hear the end of it. If you don't try this restaurant out, it your loss. I wish it was closer to my home, I would go there all the time. Thanks Snell Groves for the great place to eat. Keep up the good work.
Snellgroves is a very friendly family restaurant.
No not every restaurant can please everyone but they do serve homestyle food for a great price ten people can eat there for under fifty dollar's now where else can you go for that and have fresh veggies and a server with a smile and make you feel like they have known you you for ten years not many places.
it is not a greasy spoon hole in the wall.
and some of the people who work there have college degree's but they do not brag on them selves they are more concerned about what is going on in there customer's and how they feel. Snellgroves has pride there are some people who only have Snellgroves and the server's for friendship nobody ever thinks of the senior citzens who have lost some one and that server is there to help them and talk about how they feel . go to applebee's see if that server gives damn if your wife or husband is sick they don't but at Snellgrove's they care. sometimes it is not just about the food but the feeling and people. but the food is great if you like soul food or just down home country cookin so give them a try before you judge by what some else has wrote maybe they were having a BAD DAY OR JUST JEALOUS SO GO AND SEE FOR YOUR SELF. MY FAVORITE IS WHEN THEY RUN THEIR SPECIALS AND THE CAKES ARE TO DIE FOR FRESH NEVER FROZEN MADE BY A PLANT CITY WOMEN HER SELF FROM SCRATCH. THEY ALSO HAVE A PICK UP WINDOW AND WILL COOK YOUR THANKS GIVING MEAL WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS FOR A DECNT PRICE BETTER THAN PUBLIX AND WAY BETTER THAN WAL-MART GIVEN THEIR DRESSING IS MADE FROM SCRATCH. DON'T BE FOOLED BY SOME ONE ELSE'S BAD VIBE HAVE A GREAT DAY OR NIGHT
I found this restaurant to be outstanding for a local family style restaurant. It has quite a following in the Plant City area. Excellent home cooking prices and service. Nice country atmosphere. You never leave Snellgroves hungry.
This place's continued existance is a blemish on the face of the fine people of eastern hills, county.I have thrown better slop to the hogs.i rate it as 1 star only because there are no puss filled zits to rate it with
