I was excited to eat at this place since all the reviews were great and the fact that there was a twenty minute wait to be seated was a good sign that it was well worth waiting for. All the locals boast of this quaint little restaurant about 10 minutes from our home. My husband said that everyone he encounters from our area say's it's the best Mexican restaurant here. I beg to differ. It wasn't anything to write home about! I was expecting to be at the very least, PLEASED or IMPRESSED with the food. I didn't mind waiting, I wasn't starving yet when we got there. They were very busy and tried very much to be attentive. The service wasn't great, our server while adequate, wasn't as friendly with us as she was with the regulars. That was our first time to dine there. No biggie! I come first and foremost for the food. So, what I don't understand is why my rice was more like Chinese fried rice than Mexican or Spanish rice. I've eaten at many mexican restaurants, eaten in Mexico and have had dinners with TexMEx and MexiCali friends, and that's the first time I've ever seen rice like that. My husband says he saw it once like that before in Jacksonville, FL. I had the Steak Acapulco and it just okay. I was really expecting some Authentic tasting food but was pretty disappointed. The pros: The chips and salsa were pretty good, the prices were reasonable and the place ambiance was nice!
Everything about this place is great. Plan to wait a little while though, especially around lunch-time, as it gets pretty busy. I love the chips n salsa and the chimichanga. Everything looks great though.
This place is my favorite Mexican place to eat (and I have lived in Calif. and Texas). The food is authentic, ambiance is normal for a Mexican joint, the chile rellenos are the VERY BEST, refrieds beans excellent, chips and salsa great and get a cold Dos Equis with your food. I could eat there every day even though we live 35 miles away.
Pancho's Villa Resturant is the best tex-mex resturant I have ever been to!! Its a very friendly atmosphere and great service.... not to mention the food. If your looking for mexican food that really hits the spot- this is it! I personally would have to recommend the fajitas. = )
First off, don't judge this restaurant by its package. It's a small place with small bathrooms. It looks like kind of a dive. If you prefer the fresh painted, shiny, candle and flowers on table kind of place... you may not enjoy this. If you like Mexican food in a unique environment you'll be fine, full, and pleased. The sangria, tortilla chips and salsas were a good start. All in my family ordered something different. And all in my family loved their choice even if they weren't able to finish it. Not only is my 11yo stepdaughter a picky eater, but she was in a bad mood when we went in. She finished everything and was able to admit it was good. Some with kids may understand how hard that can be to accomplish. The food was hot, fresh, and the ingredients tasted top notch. Panchos also serves Mexican coke. For those not familiar with this... It is actual Coca-Cola brand coke. However, because it was made in Mexico they are allowed to use real sugar as opposed to the high fructose corn syrup they must use when making in the USA. (Canada can use sugar too) I recommend avid soda drinkers trying this if you haven't before. Please make sure you save room for dessert. Combine some fried ice cream with the elephant ear type bread pieces in your mouth and enjoy. It's heavenly. The service was superb. Our waitress's top priority appeared to be making sure we loved our selections. She had no problem helping if we couldn't make up our mind on something. Or recommending a particular sauce to fit our taste on something. It made for an unforgettable experience. I would not hesitate to drive back up there from Lakeland to eat there again.
Pancho's is small, personal and a great place to eat!! If you are craving some mexican food- THIS is the place to try!! For a family of 4 it will cost between $40-$50 depending on what you order. But for good food, it is worth it!!!!!!!!
I have ate at Pancho's since I moved here in 1997. They have only gotten better. They have great authentic food and the appetizer (chips & homemade salsa) are awesome. If you are hesistant to try it, dont be! It is a great place to eat! And don't forget to try the Fried Ice Cream for dessert!!
My grandmother used to make everything from scratch, including the tortillas, and her tamales were out of this world. This is the first place I've eaten at that places a close second to her cooking, plus it's in the quaint downtown gathering area of San Antonio which adds to the ambiance. And if you're in the mood for a beer, try a Negro Modelo!
