great spot to top the night off~~~~best band in town, mad cow,...and Jack the ripper may be back at his fav haunt....some say. too cool for words...a british pub shipped to delray...magical, actually....and they even have elvis visit from time to time....who knew???.....well, now you do!
THE BLUE ANCHOR PUB
The most authentic pub outside the UK. Steeped in history. Winston Churchill spent many hours imbibing there, during his cub reporting days. (This pub was imported board by board from Londons Fleet St.)
There is large variety of UK brews on tap, and by the bottle, Tap brews superbly looked after. All beers are served COLD! I have always enjoyed their Fish and Chips which is usually Fresh American Haddock or Cod.
In recent times, (2012) English owner has totally revamped his kitchen & menu and the results are greatly improved in taste and variety.
There is live music most evenings...I go there for the live TV soccer and the London Pride beer!
Most of the staff are English guys and gals and are very nice and warm to all..
The absolute best burger in town. They have a baked brie dish with fruit that is very filling. Great service and friendly staff. But one of the main reasons I go is the music. Everything from light jazz, country rock, the british invation of the 60's and 70's. Think The Band, Beatle's, Jimmy Buffet, Van Morrison, Kinks, etc. with an occasional sax solo thrown in. Always something you can dance to.
Visited the Blue Anchor on a Friday night when my folks were visiting from out of town. The service was good and although we had to wait 15 minutes for the food the Shepherd's Pie, Bangers & Mash and the Fish & Chips were very good. The menu price was very affordable and most main courses averaged around $10. We enjoyed the atmosphere for it was busy but not packed with people (we left around 10pm) The drinks came quickly and the Guiness pour was done correctly with a one inch head. We also had a round of the Glenlivet 12 yr scotch (neat) and this was a fair value as well. Overall we enjoyed our outing and I plan to return to sample the live music on the weekends.
Just last week, I went to the Blue Anchor and it was horrible. Even though it was the evening I could see the dust hanging on the fans. The waitress we had did a good job taking our order, I just wish the cooks could of made it right. The fish and chips tasted very bad, it was if they did not change their fryers for weeks and to make things worse the peas were cold and it took twenty minutes,(after drinks were served) and it was not that busy, which does not surprise me, because the food is so bad. The waitress was nice and seemed frustrated as well not at me, but at the situation. The Blue Anchor may of been around for ten years, but I doubt it will be here for eleven if they keep up with the lousy food and unclean restaurant. I will never go there again, and I would not recommend the place to Asama bin Laden, much less my friend...
My wife and I came in one afternoon from the beach and we were thoroughly ignored. We sat at a table for 20 minutes or so and watched the staff go to other tables, and they never acknowledged we were there. We looked at each other and laughed. We were invisible! We left and will never go back. We thought if the service was that ghastly, what is the food like?
Didnt eat, so can't comment on food. Draft beer selection was better than most pubs featuring many ales. Bar service was mediocre in terms of speed, however, everyone (especially the english lady and the amercian-trying-to-be-english) except the owner and an african american (cant remember his name) had an attitude from second to none. Would go back dispite the attitude.
